You are the best friend. The one who saw him cry from sadness. The one who held him during heartbreaks. The one that truly loved him but never got noticed.
It was a hard position to be in but you valued your friendship so much more. You never wanted to lose him even if you had to place your feelings aside and prioritize yours. Yes, it hurt and from time to time you had to just cry it out in the shower but you were getting worn down after years of not putting yourself and your feelings first.
He was perfect in your eyes. Handsome and playful, funny and caring. He was trustworthy and loyal. Had a pure heart that he wore on his sleeve. That is the reason for so many heartbreaks. He only wanted to see the good in people and was blinded to the sinister intentions that reality had written into the universe. You wanted to protect him at all cost no matter what it took.
"(Y/n) can I borrow your car tomorrow?" Yunho asked you as he walks through the doorway of your open room.
"For what reason?" You answered with a question. You didn't look up from your computer trying to finish your work.
"I have a date!" He stated excited. Your heart leaped causing a pang of pain to spread through your body. You grabbed your chest gently rubbing over your heart.
"Sure whatever" you mumbled not wanting to look at him. You felt the tears well up in your eyes but you had to hold them back until he left.
"Are you okay?" He asked concerned. You never spoke to him with attitude or let him see your frustration but you couldn't handle it not today.
"I am fine can you just please leave. Here are my car keys just take them. I can take a taxi home today" You reached back and placed the keys in his hand. You stood up to go to the bathroom but he took a firm grip of your wrist stopping you from moving any further.
"You are not fine and I need you to tell me what's going on!" You looked up at him. His eyes were soft and his face showed genuine concern. You struggled to hold your tears and emotions back so you just let them go. At this point the pain was so unbearable it was causing you harm.
The tears you were fighting so hard to keep back were freely flowing down your cheeks. Yunho dropped the keys on your desk and reached up to dry your tears but you pulled away.
"I can't do this anymore. Yunho it hurts too much" you said between sobs. He was so confused at what you talking about.
"What do you mean (y/n)?" He asked with a shaky voice sad at how broken you sounded. You looked down and the tears were hitting the floor as you sobbed and sniffled.
"It hurts so much! It's unbearable and I need it to stop!" You said between sniffles. He pulled you closer to him placing both his hands on your shoulders. He shook you a little wanting to know what was going on.
"(Y/n) please tell me what's going on so I can help fix it." You shook your head chuckling crying even harder.
"You can't fix it. You can't fix the feelings I've been hiding for years. I've tried to move on. I've tried to push them away. I'VE TRIED SO HARD TO FORGET YOU AND JUST LIVE IN PEACE... but my heart is so attached that it's almost impossible for me to leave." Yunho took a step back and shocked by your confession.
"(Y/n)..." he whispered.
"I thought it was better this way. I thought I could bare the pain. But it's getting to be too much... which is why I need you to walk away so I can be pain free. I've tried to walk away countless times but my loyalty to you runs way too deep that I keep Coming back. So please... I beg you... walk away so I don't feel this pain anymore!" You begged him but he shook his head in disbelief and disobedience.
"No! I'm not leaving let's talk this through!" He desperately tried to calm the situation but it had already shattered into a million pieces with no way of fixing.
"Yunho please! You can't fix this..." you whispered between a sniffle. He moved forward wiping the tears from your cheeks and cupping your face in his big hands.
"Please at least let me try!" You shook your head denying his plea.
"Nothing will be the same after this. It's unfixable. You now know I'm in love with you and have been for years. I will never be able to look at you the same way... especially since you don't feel the same way" he started to look around and his eyes landed on the screen of your computer. It had a one-way plane ticket to the US. You were leaving and you weren't gonna tell him.
"Please" he whispered letting his tears fall. "I don't want to lose you! You are too important to me!"
"I'm sorry" was the only thing you could think of saying. He let go of your face and pinched the bridge of his nose as he sobbed harder at the realization that he had lost you a while ago. He turned around and walked to the exit of your office. He looked back once before pushing the door open and leaving.

Weeks passed and you had not heard from Yunho. No texts no calls nothing! You knew this was for the better and the pain would eventually go away. You were ready to finally heal.
You took a deep breath as you collected your passport and plane ticket looking around your apartment one last time. You smiled at all the fond memories created between these 4 walls. You were sad to leave but the eerie feeling of all the hurt painted on your walls made it a little easier.
You looked at your phone and took your suitcase dragging it to the front door. You opened your door and were shocked by the sight in front of you.
"Yunho?" He looked up with red eyes and bags under his eyes. He looked rough like he hadn't been able to sleep well in weeks.
"Please don't leave!" He blurted out. His shoulders slumped forward and his eyes started getting glassy with tears.
"Yunho... I-" you had no words. All you did was shake your head and try not to cry. You were done crying.
"I've had a lot of time to think about it. I even gave you your space like you wanted... but the time I spent away from you left me empty and sad. Food tasted bland and everything was dull. Singing and dancing felt like a chore and sleep was something I day dreamed about because... I couldn't close my eyes without seeing you crying. I am the reason for your tears... I am the reason because I was too fucking stupid to see what I had in front of me. I hope it's not too late but... (y/n)... I love you! More than a friend! You... you are the reason life is so fun and colorful. Your smile makes everything brighter and... I can't live without you! I'm sorry it took me so long to realize" you stood frozen with tears streaming down your face. You were confused and shocked. You don't know what to do or say.
This moment was what you waited for, for so many years and it never came. But now it's here and it's bitter sweet.
"Yunho... I need a break from all of this... I want to put a pin in it. I am going home for a while but if we can talk about this later and stay in contact while I am gone... I'll think about coming back." He reached out and cupped your face in his hands drying your tears with his thumb. He leaned down and pressed his lips to yours in a chaste kiss.
"I love you" he whispered on your lips.
"I love you" you replied wrapping your arms around his waist and hugging him tightly.
