Ivy
As the days pass, I start to find myself growing fond of Luke's doting ways. I've always had to be the responsible one. And my family's needs always precede mine. It feels nice to have someone putting me first, for once.
My first impression of him equaled him to a brute. He's so rough, so unrefined. It's not just the fact that he looks like a yeti, but even the way he behaves felt so crude. But then, at times he would show his gentle side and it just melted my heart.
We might have been at odds when we first met, but lately, I feel like he's making more of an effort to be nicer around me. Perhaps, he too has begun to find my presence easier to live with.
When I told Luke that we should share the bed, I wasn't prepared for his night terrors. It kept me on edge for most nights but I didn't want to withdraw the invitation considering the alternative would be him stuck in that tiny couch. I was already feeling overwhelmingly indebted to everything that he has done, so I wasn't looking forward to pushing him off the one available bed just so I could have better sleep.
Fortunately, it seems to lessen when I try rubbing his back and softly humming him back to sleep. He also looks much better once he starts getting proper rest. I still can't believe he actually thinks that small couch is adequate for sleeping.
It was morning and we were about to have breakfast outside at the patio when Luke suddenly started giving weird looks at my injured leg.
"You know, I think the swelling has gone down a bit," he carefully said.
"Really?"
"Yeah." He scratched his beard like he was thinking about something. "Do you... Do you want to have a picnic?"
"A picnic?" I asked with slight curiosity at his unexpected suggestion.
"Well, you're getting better. I think you deserve a treat. A change in scenery. We don't have to go far. I think it'll be good for you." He rambled a bit, trying to explain his thought process.
"Okay." I simply said.
"Great." His eyes perked up at my answer. "Just wait here and I'll pack this up." He quickly picks up our breakfast and heads inside, appearing a few minutes later with a backpack on his back.
"Ready?" He said, looking thrilled about our little trip.
"As ready as I'll ever be." His energy was becoming contagious making me feel giddy at the thought of being away from the house.
He started to wheel me on the ground but the gravel was making the trip very uncomfortable and jittery. He stopped once he realized what was happening.
"This is not good." He muttered to himself as he scratched his head, trying to come up with a way around the problem.
"It's okay Luke. It's just a picnic." I tried to comfort him. He looked so eager just a minute ago and I hate to disappoint.
He stooped down and placed one arm under my knee and another behind my back, doing his best to prop my bad leg straight, before lifting me up and carrying me to our destination. On reflex, I loop my hands around his neck, surprised that he actually planned on carrying me the rest of the way.
