Stepping off the train in Hogsmeade station, the first years couldn't help but be awed by the castle that would become their home for the next seven years. Returning students merely smiled upon seeing the familiar school, feeling at home already.
"Firs' years! Firs' years this way!" A booming voice called out. Fiona and the boys turned to find a rather large man with bushy hair and a mane of a beard, holding a big lantern in his hand waiting for the new students to gather around. After every first year was there, the man who introduced himself as Rubeus Hagrid, began leading the way. Slipping and stumbling, they followed Hagrid down what seemed to be a steep, narrow path. It was so dark on either side of them as if there were very thick trees there, and Fiona wasn't fond of the darkness and she grasped the hand nearest to her, knowing it was her brother. For a fleeting second the hand froze before easing into hers. Nobody spoke much on the way.
"No more'n four to a boat!" Hagrid called as they came into the clearing, pointing to a fleet of little boats sitting in the water by the shore. Fiona turned to her side and her eyes widened. Instead of where James ought to be, it was Sirius, who grinned back at her. Fiona immediately let go and looked away, as if this incident hadn't taken place.
"I would appreciate a thank you, you know? But either way, you're welcome." He whispered in her ear, and Fiona cleared her throat awkwardly, her cheeks slightly pink.
"Oi! What do you think you're doing?"
James came up from behind, giving the pair a once over before narrowing his eyes onto Sirius, "No eyes on my sister."
Sirius raised his hands in surrender, "Wouldn't dream of it." If only he had known then.
Fiona took the nearest boat, however as she sat down, the wooden boat jerked violently earning a shriek from the young Potter.
"Aah! What was that scream?" A voice roared and as her heart pounded in her chest Fiona's eyes turned to slits as she saw Sirius board followed by her brother, humorous smiles upon their faces. Remus came on after with a sympathetic expression. Fiona harshly turned her face away with a hmph, her arms crossed over her chest.
"Everyone in?" shouted Hagrid, who had a boat to himself. "Right then- FORWARD!" And the fleet of little boats moved off all at once, gliding across the lake, which was as smooth as glass. Everyone was silent, staring up at the great castle overhead. It towered over them as they sailed nearer and nearer to the cliff on which it stood. "Heads down!" yelled Hagrid as the first boats reached the cliff; they all bent their heads and the little boats carried them through a curtain of ivy that hid a wide opening in the cliff face.
