Jannicke POV
As I glared at my father in confusion with what I had just heard from that cold knight. Why would my father request for such a heartless man? What is the reason for his present? What reason that is so big and bad that my father fears him? What is it? My father did not bother to look at my angry face but only walked up and down the cold stone floor with his arms at both side of his waist and his eyes filled with worries. Neither of us had spoken since that happened and now, all I could hear is his heavy footsteps.
Suddenly, the huge double door opened with a squeak. My father’s advisor, Lord Denver came in with eyes filled with worries. But he did not forget to show his manners to my father and I. My father just ran to him immediately. ‘Denver! What am I to do? My wish came true! The devil really came for my aid! But…… but……’ I could hear my father’s stuttering tone of fear but I did not understand a word. What did he meant by the devil coming to his aid? ‘Sire…..’ Lord Denver did not say more but looked at me to give a hint to my father that ‘someone who isn’t supposed to know this’ is here. I glared at the old man and he bowed again to show that he is sorry for his actions. ‘I demand to know!’ I said. My father turned to me and quickly held onto me tightly on both side of my shoulders as though it is for support.
‘Please my dear. Promise me this. Please do not talk to Sir Gaillard and Sir Chevalier again. Do not even go close to them!’ He said as his tone sounded desperate which confuses me more. Does the devil have any relation to Sir Gaillard or Sir Chevalier? ‘I do not understand this, father. Why can’t I go near them?’ I asked in confusion.
‘That is rude, Sire.’ Suddenly, a handsome husky voice echoed through the giant hall. Both my father and Lord Denver jumped and their mouth sealed shut as they turned towards my father’s throne. Following their gaze, I turned to face the daring bastard. My eyes fell onto a handsome looking blonde hair man with beautiful warm blue eyes and a skin that is fairly tan, he was tall and lean. He sat casually on my father’s throne as though it is his. His legs crossed as he played with his sword without fear of getting cut. His red drapes hang down to the floor as his shiny armor glitters against the sunlight from the window. His familiar features and voice instantly brought realization to me. That man is Sir Lucian Gaillard.
‘Have I done anything wrong to your daughter, Sire.’ He asked in an acrimonious tone, he accentuated on the word Sire in a strange tone that clearly showed that he is looking down on my father. My father did not reply, neither did Lord Denver. All they did was staring at the man in shock. I too was shock as I was sure no one was there a moment ago. How did he get in here without any of the guards noticing?
‘I am here to apologize on my brother’s behalf, Sire.’ Sir Gaillard added with much grace as he stood up from the seat and bowed as though he had not just sat on the throne. Finally, the shock from his appearance had been washed out by my burning anger I voice out. ‘What are you doing? How dare you apologize for your heartless brother when you too are one impertinent fool!’ I said in anger.
I felt a hard tug from my father whom now stood in front of me defensively as though he was shielding me from any attacks from a man over two feet away from me. ‘I am sorry for my daughter’s meddle.’ My father apologized. My mouth fell open and nothing could come out of it. My father had just apologized. He never apologize, is this a dream? Sir Gaillard burst into a loud laughter, echoing the whole room with his genuine laugh. There was no evil hidden in it, just a pure laughter which I did not understand why I actually liked it.
‘Princess Jannicke, you are really amusing.’ Sir Gaillard said. I stared at him in confusion not understanding what had happened. I did not say anything funny at all. ‘Your Highness, your wish would come true very soon. I sure hope you keep your promise.’ Sir Gaillard said. My father fell to his knees and tears rolled out of his eyes and he cried. ‘Please, please, Your Holiness, please forgive me of my mistake. I did not know that I would be making a contract with an evil witch.’ He cried. I frowned at his blab. What is he saying? Is he out of his mind? I looked up at Sir Gaillard’s face and instantly, my breath caught in my throat. Anger was all over that handsome face of his. All I see was pure evil. His blue eyes seem somehow blacker now. No, it isn’t black, it is red!
‘Well, well, well, puny human. Are you going against the deal?’ He said as his voice was filled with evil, his red eyes stared straight down at not only my father, but all of us. Cold chills spread across my spine and a cold shiver vibrated across my body. ‘No, Your Holiness. But please, please do not take my daughter.’ My father begged. I frowned in confusion and was dying to know more but I dare not speak. Suddenly, Sir Gaillard burst out into laughter. And once again his laughter was filled with warmness and genuine happiness that echoes through the rooms. How can someone be so evil and so warm all at the same time?
‘Who said anything about your daughter?’ Sir Gaillard asked. Instantly, my father’s head shot up in shock and watch as Sir Gaillard sat back down with a smile on his face. I could hear a sigh of relief from my father as he stood back up with a smile as well. ‘I am taking something far more precious than your daughter.’ Sir Gaillard said. Instantly, my father’s smile turned into fearful shuddering lips.
