~~~~NYX~~~~~
"SO...Let me get this straight... You hunted a Suriel on your own. You two morons went to Hybern, without telling anyone. Then you, Nyx, went off without Finch and got attacked by traffickers. SHOT TWICE! Paralyzed. Only to be saved by Loki Brekker... Then you made a deal with her... AND NOW! LOKI FUCKING BREKKER! has to spend three days a month in MY HOUSE, with her criminal sidekicks... Did I get that right?" Rhysand growled.
Nyx sat reciprocating the ferocious glare his father was sending him.
"That's about right." Nyx's sarcastic response did him no favors but he couldn't care less.
His family had voted to keep his mate from him, he just decided that wasn't going to work.
"We are a family... We discuss things as a group-"
"Oh shove it, father. If I recall I was not part of the discussion when you decided my mate wasn't good enough for me. MY MATE! I also recall you making a similar bargain with mom without consulting the inner circle, way back when. So you have no room to talk..." Nyx hissed trying to hold himself back from going at his father.
A guilty expression took over Rhysands face as he realized Nyx knew about their agreement to not tell him of his mate's identity.
"She is a danger-"
"YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HER! I DON'T EVEN KNOW HER! She had done NOTHING besides help us... She found us the book of breathing. She saved me and brought me back to the night court. You are just worried because she scares you." Nyx, now standing, got up into his father's face, sneering.
A moment of tense silence filled the room.
A sigh of resignation left Rhysand as his eyes softened, "Fine. When they come, bring our...guests... to the House of Winds for family dinner... At the very least I suppose we can keep an eye on her, maybe we can even get her Illyrian shadow singer back where she belongs with us."
Nyx held his tongue at the obvious unfounded suspicion towards his mate, just happy his father somewhat agreed.
Loki would be returning with three of her minions in one week and Nyx could not wait.
~~~~LOKI~~~~

"INEJ!!! YOU ARE FUCKING GROUNDED!!! You brought the prince of the night court to me in the middle of a mission... WHAT THE HELL?!?!" Loki roared, Inej stood looking like a chastised puppy.

"Oh, you mean the prince of the night court, your mate... that prince of the night court?" Jesper added sarcastically from his spot leaning on her office wall.

Loki's head snapped to him, "How did you-?"

"Loverboy told Jesper and Jesper told us... No one else knows, thank the cauldron. But what the hell, Loki? You didn't think that finding your mate was a big enough thing to tell us... ESPECIALLY when he's a future High Lord. AND you made a deal?!?! To go to the night court three days a month?!?" Nina said from her seat.

Loki froze, they were right of course but they still could have come up with something else.

"Ya your probably right...Well... Now is probably a good time to come clean that the Suriel also told be something else." Loki sighed as she fell back into the leather chair at her desk.

Inej, Jesper, Nina, Matthias, and Wylen all waited for their boss to collect her thoughts.

"So you know those stories about the death gods from the War?... The Bone Carver, the weaver, and their brother Bryaxis?" Loki started looking to her crows for confirmation.

When they all nodded their heads she continued, "Ya well apparently that last one... Bryaxis...He's my father."

The color drained from their faces, Jesper nearly losing his balance from his place on the wall.

"...You are the daughter... of an ancient death god?" Nina asked breathlessly.

Loki nodded in confirmation.

"...That checks out...I always knew you were a devil." Matthias said deadly serious, but the quip sent the crows into a fit of laughter.

The tense air lightened as they started making jokes about death-god child support.

Loki gave a small smile as she looked at the joyous faces of her crows, her family. She knew that a lot was going to change soon. She could feel it.

But for now, she sat and enjoyed the scathing remarks and light-hearted teasing. Praying to the Cauldron that it wouldn't end too soon.
