Connor's POV

"...so yea" Felicite said, concluding her uneventful recount of the history lesson following Louisa's 'departure'. Obviously our faces' gave enough away, as she slumped back into her chair. 'You don't believe me?' Louisa retorted - rather loudly if I may add - "Am I a vampire? No. We do not believe you. What I saw was not a jokey hand-on-leg, it was an 'I'm in love because of fate' hand-on-leg.' "I rolled my eyes, Louisa's enthusiasm never ceases to amuse me. Felicity turned to look at me, pleading for me to come to her aid. I gave her a sympathetic shrug before walking around her to talk to Ryder.

"How's it going with Millie in history?" I asked.

He shot me an 'are you serious?' look. "Same here." I said, sharing his feelings completely, although Joanna wasn't as bad a partner as I thought she would be. Being a necromancer, I had expected a year of hell, but I had been pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong though, I still hate it.

"Got much information for the project out of her yet?" I asked.

"Nope, she's not much of a talker. How 'bout Joanna?"

"Pretty much the same. Which is bad, because I need to do well in history. My dad aced it when he was here, and made me swear that I'd do all I could to do the same." I admitted.

"Ooo, that sucks." he said through a grimace.

"Yea..on that note..." I started.

"Nope, I know that look! You're gonna ask me to do something horrible."

I grinned. "Since I need to do well, thus meaning that I need to do stuff outside of class, I need you to convince your partner to join Joanna and I in town this weekend."

He stared at me disbelievingly. "You do realise what you are asking, right? You are asking me to spend my free time, doing homework with people that I can't stand - not including you - when I could be in my dorm room doing nothing productive with my friends."

"Well, this way you get the best of both. Homework, and spending time with your friends. Well, friend."

When he still looked unconvinced, I tried again. "Pleeeaassseee! I really need this. I'll owe you forever."

Finally, he let out a breath. "Fine. But you ask Joanna before I ask Millie."

"Done." I say, grinning smugly. At his confused look, I explain "I asked her during history. She was actually the one who suggested we drag you two along. I guess she's not too fond of going into town with me alone either."

"What if Millie doesn't want too. I wouldn't blame her." He asked, clearly looking for any excuse to get out of going.

"Joanna will talk to her, I think they're friends. Just go and confirm it with her at lunch or something."

He let out an irritated sigh just as the bell rang, signalling an end to his protests, and also to Felicity's interrogation.

Fortunately, it also indicated the beginning of my favourite class. Transformation. And luckily Ryder's in my class too.

I jolted Ryder out of his sad thoughts about the approaching weekend, by pushing him out of the door, towards the lesson. It takes place in one of the biggest classes in the school, big enough for the class of 15 to have shifted and have enough space. From the classroom you can also access a specially designed running track reserved only for shifted students.

As we entered the class, we lined up along the back wall and waited for the teacher to appear. One he did, he began speaking immediately.

"For those of you who were not present during our first class yesterday, I'm Mr Lucas and I will be you're transformation teacher for this year. My aim is for you to be able to completely control you shifts by the end of the year. This means not shifting out of anger or any other emotion, and being able to control your actions once shifted. Throughout the year we'll go over many techniques on how to calm your wolves etc, but for today I'm just going to evaluate how well you are able to shift. No one in this class is under 16?" he queried.
