Rushing through the corridors, Preeta reached the lift and pressed on the third floor where the restaurant was located. Her heart thumped loudly in extreme fear. Today, she had not just disappointed him. She had insulted him in front of his employees. She just wished they would be still there with him so she could apologise heartily.
Her gaze fell on the time in her phone and she noticed, she was forty-five minutes late. Her legs shook at the uncertainty. How would he be? Would he be angry? Would he shout at her in front of those clients? Preeta gulped at the thought. The doors slid to the sides and Preeta rushed out to enter the restaurants where she could see people dressed up in formals.
Her gaze wandered on each table. But then she looked at the VIP section for important meetings. Her feet moved on their own accord but her eyes still looked around. She noticed it was late and people were leaving for their home after a drink with their colleagues. Stepping into the VIP section, she held her breath and looked through the glass of each cabin. Her gaze wandered on every face and finally, the last cabin arrived which was attached to the balcony and she could see a tall figure standing there, looking outside.
Her eyes moved around and she noticed the empty tables, the left overs, her head lowered in defeat. The lump started forming in her throat in shame. She couldn't collect the courage to face Karan. So much bad had happened today and this was worst when she couldn't face her husband.
She slowly walked towards him and saw him staring blankly at the traffic far on the roads. She heard him sighing just as she reached the railing. Gulping slowly, she observed his expressionless face. She knew that he had known she had come but wasn't acknowledging her. Her heart dropped in embarrassment.
"Karan, I am..."
She saw clenching of his jaws and all her little courage crushed in her. She sucked in a huge breathe and tried again.
"There was so much traffic..."
She saw him leaving the railing and walking inside towards the restaurant leaving her there alone. Her eyes widened and she shakily called for him.
"Karan, wait. I can explain..."
She followed him through the tables and noticed how everyone was noticing this. Her face turned warm in embarrassment and she rushed to catch up to him. Karan had reached the lift and didn't wait for her. He pressed the button and before Preeta could reach, the doors closed and lift slid down.
Preeta's eyes turned wet at such hatred. She couldn't digest his silence. It was so unreal. He would have been angry before but not like this. He hadn't even looked at her. Using another elevator, she reached downstairs and noticed he was leaving.
"Karan, please." She chased him to the parking while trying not to cry in front of people. She waited for him at the parking till he silently brought out his car. She thought that he would stop the car but her eyes widened as she saw the car moving away in front of her.
"Karan, No. Wait. Don't leave me." She cried while jogging after the car but noticed now, everyone was watching. She let out a breathe and that was the time she finally burst out in tears. Her heart ached so much that she wanted to sit on the road and cry endlessly.
She had no car since, she had sent Mohan Uncle to the hospital whom her and Arjun made awake by sprinkling water on his face. Somehow, he managed to go by himself to the nearest clinic while Arjun dropped her at the office here. She wished that this wouldn't have happened today. She was afraid if the deals were affected by her absence tonight.
"Someone, kill me..." She whispered when all of a sudden, a voice startled her.
"Preeta." Her head turned and she saw Kabir's concerned eyes. Her heart filled with overwhelming feeling and she choked out a sob.
