Chapter Eight - Sense of Regret

After he washed his hair out of curiosity, Soobin smelled the bottle of shampoo one more time. He wanted to know which fragrance Beomgyu had chosen for him. It was cotton candy. He smelled the shampoo for about five minutes now, taking in the scent that perfectly suited his taste, not admitting that he was just too shy to go back to the bedroom.

He felt as if he was in the wrong room, wanting to be where Beomgyu and Yeonjun were. It was obvious that Kai and Taehyun got along better than he did with them. At Least that is what Soobin thought. He had heard their laughter all the way to the bathroom, their dull voices still getting heard when the water was flowing onto his body.

"Hey Soobin! You got flushed down the toilet by accident?" Kai shouted across the room, unaware that Soobin could have still heard him if he had used his normal voice. He was too shy to answer so he just put the shampoo back in his bag and opened the bathroom door quietly.

Kai and Taehyun were sitting on the bed when Soobin came out of the bathroom, his hair blow dried. Taehyun turned around to face him, looked at him with a relaxed gaze and examined his soft hair.

Soobin didn't know where he should go and went to sit on the fold out bed where he could hear a creaking when moving around on it. The others didn't seem to hear it. It felt uncomfortable and it was too small for Soobin's tall figure.

"So, Soobin! I've only heard little snippets of your story, but tell me: How did you get on this road trip?" Kai suddenly asked and fell on his tummy to get a better look at Soobin while resting his chin on the palm of his hands. Taehyun slightly turned his sitting position towards Soobin so he could also get a better look at him.

Soobin put on a small smile to hide his embarrassment. He always loved the attention on him and it normally didn't bother him but now he would rather be ignored. Or wouldn't he?

He let out a quiet chuckle.

"Well, I work at a gas station near our town, so I thought I might as well get in when Beomgyu and Yeonjun stop there." Soobin briefly explained and tried to put on an exciting expression but it rather seemed very awkward and it felt as if it was a bad idea to even think about in the first place.

"Last time you told me the story, you seemed more enthusiastic about it." Taehyun stated and eyed Soobin with a questionable look. Soobin only chuckled again to hide his malaise.

"That is surely a terrible idea!" Kai laughed out loud and didn't sense the awkward atmosphere in the room at all. Taehyun had a worried look on his face.

"But you work at a gas station? I never had a part-time job during school." Kai asked, now curious and let his chin rest on only one of his hands. Soobin's tense feeling in his chest calmed down a bit.

"Yeah, my father works in one of the companies and told me about a Job advert while he was checking the gas station I work at right now."

"And why do you work there?" Taehyun interrupted them both.

"I mean, do you save up for something?"

"I wanna buy myself tickets for the Miley Cyrus concert that is in a few months!" His voice got louder and more excited when he mentioned the reason why he was even working at the gas station and his mood got lifted right away.

"Really?! That's the reason why I want to visit Bahiyyih! We want to buy tickets too!" Taehyun had a bright smile on his face. Talking about his all time favorite artist always made him happy.

"We could go together!" Soobin almost yelled but quickly shut himself up when he realized what he said. There was a reason why Taehyun already had a person to go with.
