Yeonjun wasn't disappointed. The voices of the boys were almost louder than the music played through the car speakers. For a second he forgot the noise in his head and despite the loud voices of four boys chattering with each other and the music in his phone echoing through the walls, Yeonjun felt it was quiet for the first time in a long while.
"Here, Yeonjun." Kai tapped his shoulder with the phone he was holding, gesturing to Yeonjun to take his phone back. Yeonjun let go of his right hand from the steering wheel and took his phone back, shifting his eyes between the road and the display yet again to examine the songs his two new companions put in.
33. Best Song Ever - One Direction
34. Applause - Lady Gaga
35. Party In The U.S.A. - Miley Cyrus
36. Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) - Katy Perry
37. Die Young - Kesha
38. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together - Taylor Swift
39. Rude Boy - Rihanna
40. Love Me Harder - Ariana Grande
The songs Kai put in were mostly from the 2010's and upbeat songs. Not what Yeonjun imagined when he saw the guy for the first time. There was a slight difference between the songs Kai put in and the songs Taehyun put in. Taehyun's songs consisted mostly of Miley Cirus' more recent music and Nickelback. Most of them were rock songs but there were a few slightly calmer ones in between them.
"After that is settled, I would like a more detailed story of how both of you know each other." Yeonjun asked, looking through the rear-view mirror at Taehyun and Kai.
"Well I wanted to visit my sister." Kai started talking with an exaggerated tone. He sounded quite upset though his expression seemed amused about it.
"I still don't know why you are so upset about it." Taehyun interrupted him but Kai only nudged him with his shoulder to stop talking.
"As I was saying: I wanted to visit my sister, who lives in Ratport City and when the bus driver took a stop at a gas station, I started a chat with the little guy next to me."
"I'm 1,77 meters tall." Soobin turned his head to look at Taehyun. He was taller than he looked.
"He told me that he also wanted to visit someone in Ratport City and guess who the fuck it was!?"
"Your sister?" Yeonjun asked ironically and he couldn't help but form a little smile on his face.
"My sister!" He repeated in a more loud voice and waved his hands around in exaggeration.
"I told you that I know Bahiyyih from school!" Taehyun began to speak again. Soobin flinched a little as he didn't realize that Taehyun's voice could be so loud.
The room got filled with laughter, one louder than the other. Yeonjun looked over at Beomgyu and saw him laughing with his mouth wide open. His cheeks burned and the room got warmer. Beomgyu looked over to Yeonjun with sparkling eyes and almost caused a car crash with his smile, if Yeonjun hadn't held the steering wheel so consistently straight and firm.
Taehyun seemingly wasn't finished with his explanation as he sensed that Kai still was a little sulky about a boy knowing his little sister and wanting to meet up with her. It was a behavior that Kai couldn't quit like that. He was always very protective over his two sisters, one older and one younger than him. Kai was the middle child and the only thing he thought he was useful for, was to protect the people he loved.
"Don't worry, I'm not interested in your sister." Taehyun stated and tried to clear the accusation out of the way.
"Why, because she isn't enough for you?"
"Because I'm gay, you shithead."
Soobin almost seemingly flinched at that word. His heart began to beat faster and he looked over to Taehyun to cover it up, but it only made it worse.
"Who would have thought?" Yeonjun said, looking through the rear-view mirror over to Taehyun and getting met with his eyes looking at him through the mirror as well.
"Soobin looks surprised." He replied and smiled over to the taller one, whose face turned red in a blink of an eye. It was embarrassing.
...............................................................
The horizon slowly swallowed the sunlight and the sky turned from a pastel pink to a dark orange which the car was driving towards. They already left the semi-desert and headed to a more civilized area with glowing cities in the far and green fields next to the highway.
Beomgyu watched the clouds floating calmly in the sky and listened to 'Slide Away' by Miley Cirus that droned through the car speakers. Yeonjun had lowered the window of his car door slightly and a soothing breeze blew through Beomgyu's hair, cooling his skin, which burned at the thought of Yeonjun's lips thinning when he smiled and his cheeks plumping when he looked over at Beomgyu.
"Where are we gonna sleep by the way?" Kai asked, breaking the silence, and propped up his body by resting his hands on each front seat.
"Oh right. Beomgyu, can you look up some motels nearby?"
"That's the only thing I'm good for?"
"You are the one sitting in the passenger seat." Yeonjun smiled at the sunset and took a quick glimpse at Beomgyu before he fixed his eyes at the road again. Beomgyu took his phone out of his pocket while giving Yeonjun an angry glare.
"Next time I'm sitting in the backseat."
"You can take my seat." Kai spoke up.
"Feels like I'm third wheeling back here. There is some serious tension going on between them." He whispered the last sentence to Beomgyu but they both could obviously hear the things he said. Taehyun didn't react to it but only continued to look out of the window on his side whereas Soobin slightly turned his head over to glance at Taehyun and waited expectantly for a reaction. There wasn't one.
"Why are we even staying? You don't seem tired." Taehyun commented on Kai's question with a genuine tone. Yeonjun hesitated with his answer but then laughed quietly.
"I'm a human too."
"There is a motel at the next exit. Just keep driving, I'm gonna tell you when to get off the highway."
"Thanks, cutie." Yeonjun responded instantly, not thinking about what he just said. Beomgyu swung his head around to Yeonjun and stared at him with wide open eyes. Yeonjun laughed at the sudden realization of his words but didn't say anything further.
"Never say that again." Beomgyu whispered with an offended tone and his eyes got bigger with every word he said. Yeonjun just laughed more at that.
"You are just saying that because it makes you blush."
"No matter where I look there is always some lovey-dovey shit going on." Kai sighed disappointed and fell back into his seat.
Taehyun looked up from the window and over to Soobin only to see him looking at the green fields distributed along the highway.
