Chapter Nine - Not Obvious Enough

Soobin felt as if last night was a fever dream. Especially the last few minutes before he fell asleep were mostly just words flying around his head that he couldn't put into sentences. There was only one sentence that formed in his mind and he wasn't sure if that sentence even left someone's mouth.

Yeonjun and Beomgyu were already sitting inside the car. Before, they were awkwardly smiling all the way to his car and Soobin didn't know why. Were they relieved because they didn't need to spend the night with Soobin? They were both giggling and laughing about some stupid joke and it was strange to him how close they were to each other. They barely talked with one another at school and they weren't friends. At least not before this road trip.

Soobin walked up to the car. He already felt the handle on the rear door being clutched by his hand and he opened it before the others even approached the car.

Soobin couldn't enter because a small arm positioned itself in front of his body and blocked his way. It was Taehyun.

"Wait." Taehyun turned his head around at Kai, who was the last one to walk up to the car, and waited for him to get to them.

"Go in first." Taehyun commanded and it wasn't Soobin he was talking to.

"As you wish." Kai climbed into the car and pushed himself further to the seat in the back, not thinking much about Taehyun's intention. Taehyun looked up at Soobin and into his eyes. His eyes were wide open and his brows were furrowed. He showed a confused look but Taehyun didn't let him question his actions further as he pushed Soobin into the car.

"Get in."

The car was filled with talking and words, with murmur and sentences and Soobin still questioned why he was sitting in the middle of the backseat now. It was easier to interact with everyone but it was also more stressful. He didn't know why.

Beomgyu's body turned around in the front seat, holding onto the backrest while his gaze was fixed at Soobin with wide and expectant eyes.

"Did you shower yesterday?" His odd and unexpected question made Kai laugh. Taehyun giggled quietly in his seat while he looked out the window.

"Why do you wanna know this so badly?" Soobin chuckled. His eyes slightly closed while he chuckled and his teeth showed through his smile. Taehyun averted his eyes from the window and looked at Soobin.

"Did you?" Beomgyu's voice sounded intrusive and Yeonjun looked through the rear view mirror and chuckled in amusement.

"I did."

"And did you like it?" Soobin had to think about it for a minute. Did Beomgyu just ask him how he liked the shower?

"He talks about the shampoo that smells like cotton candy." Taehyun explained to him, his chin lifted up as he looked into Soobin's face.

"Oh!" Soobin exclaimed, his eyebrows softened from his questioned gaze.

"Yeah, I did like it. It smells really nice."

"It does." Soobin heard from his left and his body immediately jumped away as he noticed Kai's face being sunken in his hair, taking in the scent coming from his shampoo. His face was never that close to Soobin before and only now did he notice all the moles on Kai's nose and cheek. He also noticed how red and soft his lips actually were. He never catched Kai with his lips not moving.

Yeonjun started his car and drove out of the parking lot of the motel. Soobin averted his staring gaze from Kai and quickly turned his attention to the street, which he could see perfectly from his seat. Kai wasn't laughing at him as he usually did. He just continued staring at him with wide open eyes, looking like an innocent puppy, and didn't move an inch.
