Musical Memories

I looked through the window, still listening to #12-Awake. It wasn't bad for a song made while I was Sanitized, I guess.

I had to show my Octoling form soon. It hurts to stay in one form for too long, so I switched. But then, someone knocked on the door. I squeaked and shrank back to my Octo form.

Dang it! Stupid social anxiety!

Callie came in with a sandwich on a plate. "Hey, it's lunchtime!" she said energetically. "Oh, you're listening to Squid Squad? Ha, I never thought I'd ever see someone listening to that. Nowadays, they're always talking about Off the Hook, Wet Floor, sometimes us, and even Chirpy Chips! I mean, Squid Squad did break up, but that shouldn't affect their songs' popularity, right?"

I stared at her. "Oh! Sorry, I just really like music," she apologized.

Now or never. I had to do it...

I switched forms. No memories came back. Good.

"No, it's okay, I like music too," I said. She turned around.

"Wha!? You switched...?" She was probably startled. I nodded.

"I used to make music too..." I said.

And so I told her everything. It felt like a weight was lifted off my back, somehow. I told her everything about being an Octarian soldier to being a Sanitized DJ. She was very surprised.

Later, she told Marie everything. And soon enough, the whole Agent group knew. They would come over tomorrow. I was actually excited.

Well, okay, maybe a little bit nervous too.

I expected them to bombard me with questions about Octarians and Kamabo, but Eight just walked up to me and asked, "Did you make this?"

She pulled out a CQ-80 and clicked play on a song. A song which I immediately recognized as #13 - Shade. "Yeah," I said. "That's...the only one that has lyrics," I remembered recording them. I had never sung before, so it sounded kind of weird, but it was a lot better than anything that anyone else at Kamabo could have come up with.

"I didn't like the music at Kamabo except for this song," she said.

We talked about music for a little longer, so Off the Hook and the Squid Sisters joined in. Apparently, Agent 3's favorite song is Sucker Punch, Agent 8's are #13 Shade and Shark Bytes.  Agent 4's is Ebb and Flow, but she changed her favorite when she heard of their remix, Fly Octo Fly.

Eventually, the subject did change to Kamabo.

Luckily, I could answer all of their questions. But then I had to get the shot of Low-Tide ink.

But this time...

It was different.

I'm not sure if it was just imagining it, but the green on my hands seemed to be a slightly different shade now. Maybe a little bit lighter? Then again,

But maybe I would finally be able to live a normal life...someday.
