Kaden

It's been hours since Faye went shopping with the girls and by now I'm close to getting in my car and going to bring her back myself. After I've dealt with Fred and the other thugs, I had nothing else to do, so I miss my Fairy terribly. She's been gone for so long... I hope she comes back soon.

As if she's heard my prayers, my sweet little Fairy stumbles cutely through the door of our room soon after I'm done changing into clean clothes. I needed a long shower to wash off all the blood from my body.

I smile lovingly at my girlfriend in greeting, but my happy grin quickly turns sour when I notice her scared expression. Without a word, Faye rushes to me as I walk over to her and wraps her arms around me so tightly I almost stumble in shock. What's worse is that she's trembling. "What happened, baby?" I ask frantically, engulfing her small shaking body in my arms, holding her as close to me as possible.

"I just want a hug," she mumbles quietly. I can easily tell she's hiding something, but I don't dare pry into it so soon. If she wants to tell me, she will. I won't force her.

And if she wants a hug, I'll give her one. "How could I say no to such request?" I chuckle softly, kissing the top of her head tenderly before I walk us to the bed, where I sit with her nestled in my lap. I keep pressing small kisses to her head and rubbing her back soothingly, and soon her trembling stops. She only sits in my embrace and holds onto my shirt for dear life.

I have no idea what happened at the mall, but I can tell it shook her quite a bit. It's clear that she's had an unpleasant experience and I'm tempted to interrogate the girls or Thea so they tell me what exactly transpired during their trip. I hold myself back, though. It's more important to ease Faye's mind and reassure her.

After a while, Faye finally tells me what happened at the mall. To say I'm mad at the fucker who scared her would be an understatement. I want to rip his arms off for even trying to touch my girlfriend. According to Faye, Thea and the girls warned the guys to leave them alone, but they didn't stop advancing, and even tried to trap the girls by surrounding them. And when Thea saw that Faye was scared of the guy who put his arm around her to block her from leaving, she grabbed him and broke his wrist.

I'll have to tell my parents about that so they can settle this before it becomes an issue. Thea is known for her brutal strength, so I'm sure the guy's hand is crushed into pieces. If he presses charges against her, it'll be messy, so it's best to settle this peacefully as soon as possible. It's not the first time something like this happens, to be honest. My family is really well-acquainted with the local police department thanks to their frequent visits. I'm sure that this time everything will end well as usual.

Seeing how distraught my Fairy is, I decide to get her attention off the disturbing incident that had place earlier. "Can you at least show me what you bought at the mall?" I request with a small pout, earning an incredulous look from Faye before she bursts laughing.

"You're... impossible," she giggles, leaning her head on my chest. "But that's why I love you."

"I wasn't joking though."

"I know. And that's what's funny," she sighs softly. "You make me feel better so easily it's unbelievable. While I was lost in the memory of... that guy nearly killing me, all I could think of was seeing you and getting lost in your warmth. Kaden, I've become so dependent on you it scares me a little," she admits quietly. I have no idea what thought process just happened in her head, but she has no need to worry about something so insignificant.

"I love it that you rely on me," I tell her truthfully, kissing her head again. "Ever since I met you, I've wanted to protect you from harm and keep you safe, even if... it was only from the shadows. To see you rely on me, let me hold you when you're scared, really means a lot to me. I want to be there for you not only during the good times, but also during the bad ones. Though I hope there aren't any, I know life is not all sunshine and rainbows. It's inevitable that there are going to be hardships as we go through life, but I'll do my best to protect you. I want to catch you when you stumble, hold you when you're scared, warm you up when you're cold, calm you down when you're nervous... I want to be there for you whenever you need me."

"What if I need you all the time?" she asks timidly, fiddling with my shirt nervously.

As if she has any reason to be nervous. "Then I will be with you all the time. Simple."

"I can't possibly make you devote your whole life to me... It's not fair to you. You probably have dreams, aspirations, ambitions and having someone as weak as me by your side will only hold you back. Eventually, you'll get sick of me being a liability and leave me." What the hell is going on in that small head of hers? Seriously? She's worried I'll leave her because she's not 'strong'?

"You have no idea how strong you really are, Faye. Not everyone could go through something as traumatic as you have and still be able to smile and enjoy life. Baby, it's been barely three days since that horrible incident, so it's perfectly understandable that you're still shaken up by it, but that doesn't mean you're weak."

"Maybe..." she sighs deeply then lifts her head to look me straight in the eyes. "But I want to be strong. I want to be able to protect myself instead of depending on others to do it for me. I want to... protect you the way you protect me," she declares seriously.

There is a way to achieve that dream, actually, and it might be the right moment to tell her about dad's idea. "Is that what you truly want?"

"It is. I don't want to be helpless if anything happens again. When I saw Thea crush that guy's hand so easily, I thought that... I wanted to be like her. On our way home, I even asked her about it and she said it's possible to turn me to be like her, but I... I wanted to talk to you first. I didn't want to make such a decision without you." So they've already discussed this. Then perhaps it's not a bad idea to actually do this...

"After you were almost killed by those thugs, I had the same thought as you. I wanted to be stronger so I could protect you better... I thought about asking Lorenzo to turn me into a werewolf, but I couldn't help but think about the possibility that you wouldn't end up being my mate. I love you too much to risk it happening, so I gave up on that idea. And then, dad jokingly suggested that I ask Thea to turn me into an Undead. Since Undeads don't have mates like werewolves, there would be no risk of losing you. But at the same time, Undeads are almost immortal and live for a long time, just like Thea, so if only I was turned into one, I'd be forced to watch you grow old and die and then I'd be all alone. I... didn't know how to bring this up to you, but now that you've mentioned it yourself, maybe it's the best course of action..."

"Kaden, what are you saying exactly?" Faye frowns cutely in confusion before she gasps quietly when the realization hits her. "We can both become Undeads..."

"We can. But I would never think about forcing you to accept this and that's why I hesitated before bringing this up."

"If we both changed, we would be both strong like Thea and we would be able to live for a long time..." Faye thinks it over quickly then wraps her arms around my neck, grinning from ear to ear. "That will be amazing! I love you! I love you. I love you," she kisses me a few times before jumping off my lap and trying to drag me off the bed. "Come on, let's go ask Thea if she'll agree."

"Right now?" I did not expect such enthusiasm, I have to admit.

"We need to strike while the iron's hot. I'm not saying we should go through with this right away, but we need to know if Thea's willing to help us," Faye reasons, suddenly in a much better mood. She really must want this if she's this excited.

"Okay then," I obediently follow her out of our room. "Let's ask her."

"Oh yeah!"

"And then you're going to show me the dress you bought."

"Kaden!"
