Kaden
Absolutely not." Mom states sternly, shocking me to the core. I was sure she'd agree, she's always on my side, so what is this tomfoolery?
After Faye and I came back from dinner with my grandparents, we watched a movie in the den and waited for my parents to come home from work. When they eventually did, we all sat down in the living room and I asked them to allow Faye to stay with me in my room.
I was convinced my mom would support me on this, so her blatant refusal is absolutely bewildering.
"But... dad?" I turn to my dad instead, but he only shakes his head at me.
"I agree with your mother."
"Mom, please!" I beg unashamedly.
Mom doesn't budge, though. "Not a chance. Out of the question."
"But why?" They must be a reason they're so against it, right?
Mom only sighs heavily. "Your room is not nearly big enough for both of you, Kaden, your closet wouldn't fit all of your and Faye's clothes, there's no space to put another set of cabinets and a desk for Faye to study. I won't allow you to stay in your room. Choose another one." Mom asserts with a stern look.
All Faye and I can do is blink at her in shock.
So the issue is not with Faye sharing a room with me... but with the fact that mom considers my room to be too small for that?
"Mom!" I whine, burying my head in my hands, nearly screaming in disbelief. "You scared the hell out of me!" Jesus Christ, I almost dropped to my knees to beg. She played me like an idiot...
"Hehe, got him!" Mom laughs triumphantly, giving dad a high-five.
"You should've seen your face, son. - dad laughs boisterously then kisses mom's temple - Guess I lost again." He shrugs, pulling out his phone and making a call. "Duma, you're in charge while we're gone. Yeah, you can say that. I lost a bet again. - he chuckles - Okay, I'll make it official during the next meeting. Just wanted to let you know. See you." He says before hanging up.
"Why can I never win against you?" He turns to mom with a dejected sigh, putting his head on her shoulder.
"That's because you underestimate your son. - mom pats his cheek lightly - He's even more impatient than you."
"You bet on us? Again?" I exclaim accusingly. Why are they like this?
"Of course we did. - mom deadpans - It's fun. First, we bet on how long it'll take you to ask Faye out. I said you wouldn't make it past two months, your dad said otherwise. Then, after I caught you in bed together, we bet on how long it'll take you to ask to share a room. I was sure you'd come to us within a month, but Blake said you're not that impatient and you'll wait for at least until after we're back from Atlanta. Clearly I was right." She laughs, staring pointedly at my and Faye's joined hands.
"Wow, just wow. And here I thought nothing could surprise me anymore." I shake my head at their absurdity, but my fairy seems to find mom's reasoning funny and giggles quietly beside me.
"So you're not against us sharing one room?" I decide to clarify.
"Of course not, just not your room. It's too small." Mom smiles warmly, putting me more at ease. "The second master bedroom on the second floor should be enough, but we might need to renovate it before you can move in. It's been left unused for so long... Why don't I invite Cameron for dinner tomorrow? You two can tell him what you need yourselves." She suggest, but I know she leaves us no room for discussion.
