"Thalia, darling, don't stress about it!" Cate shouted from the hallway, she looked beautiful when she'd poked her head into the kitchen only moments ago. She'd been growing her hair out and it was longer than her previous shoulder-length style.
Sarah and Sandra were coming over to visit, claiming they desperately wanted to meet me and being completely, if not only jokingly, outraged that they'd found out about me through the media.
I think that's something that came with Cate, being in her life felt like a privilege, but it also felt like I didn't belong. Her scene was a famous scene, and with her came a package deal of attention, especially from the media.
She had practically taken my breath away with her outfit, it was simple but so extravagant at the same time, beauty personified. Just a plain black suit jacket and pants, white a plain white shirt underneath. She'd donned a pair of black heels and done some light makeup and she was ready, she was extremely casual about the whole thing.
Unlike me of course. I understood that she'd been friends with Sarah and Sandra for quite some time, but I'd never expected that I'd be meeting them. I'd been all over the house making sure everything was spotless, including myself, I'd spent an unreasonable time in front of the mirror inspecting myself as if I'd suddenly come across some sort of grotesque flaw I possessed.
Cate had assured me multiple times that I'd looked magnificent, her words exactly, and she'd mentioned something about peeling off the very outfit I was wearing. I'd been too distracted to reply to her sexual comments.
The dress was flattering, complimenting curves I didn't even know I had, it was a red color and had a slit leading up to my thigh. I'd worn things like it before but it was different this time, I was meeting Cate's best friends, it was like I was officially becoming a part of her life.
"Do you think my makeup is too much?" I asked her, looking away from the mirror to join her in the hallway. She was leaning against the wall by the door, in that moment I couldn't help but feel like the luckiest woman in the world. She was just so insanely beautiful, I sort of wished we could just tell her friends that we had to cancel dinner plans and then spend the entire night together.
Cate scoffed and pushed off of the wall in the sexiest way possible, striding over to me and tucking loose hair behind my ear before gently ghosting my lips with her own. "You look perfect," she rasped and then pulled me into her for another kiss.
I smiled against her lips, feeling more than content with her lips on my own. I didn't deserve her, the thought was released like some sort of wild animal, rooting itself in my brain. I hated having doubts.
Eventually, wary of the time, I pulled away from Cate. My hands rested on her shoulders while hers rested on my waist, "are you sure?" I asked, my eyes nervously darting down to my dress once again as I spoke.
Cate was silent for a while before I felt her warm hand under my chin, tilting my head upwards to look at her. Her face was serious as if a terrible thought had possessed her mind. "Thalia," she breathed, my name leaving her mouth in a rasp. "You have nothing to worry about, darling, they're going to love you,"
It was with Cate, I realized, that I felt safest. As long as she was here with me then nothing could go wrong. "You are a beautiful person and I will always," she paused, "always, love you, no matter what anyone says,"
It was sweet and heart-warming and it made my heart swell and my eyes cloud with tears. In fear that I'd smudge my eyeliner, I wafted my eyes, to Cate's amusement, and then we kissed once again.
It was just as we parted that there was a knock at the door. My heart rate picked up and my hands got sweaty, I was not at all prepared. I had no idea why I was so nervous, meeting Cate I'd barely blinked.
