I took off my apron and was heading for the door when an adorable girl with blonde ringlets came in, dragging a brunette woman behind her.

"Do you need to place an order?" I asked, looking to the woman.

"Actually, my Mistress is here about a promise," the woman said.

"A promise?" I asked.

"Yes!" the little girl said brightly, "My name is Elizabeth Midford, but you can call me Lizzie, and this is Paula. Sebastian promised I could dress you up for the ball Ciel is hosting!"

Though I was distracted by the little girl's energetic tone, I managed to catch that she was talking about choosing my clothing for the ball. I admit, I was relieved to not have to try to figure out what she or Lord Phantomhive would expect me to wear.

"Alright," I said.

"Goody!" Lizzie cried, racing around the counter, grabbing my hand, grabbing Paula's hand, and yanking us both out the door.

"I deeply apologize for her energy," Paula said jaggedly as she ran behind Lizzie.

"It's beautiful," I said, "I love it."

Paula smiled widely and I almost tripped over Lizzie when she stopped suddenly. Paula took a deep breath before opening the door to the carriage and helping Lizzie in. She motioned for me to enter before coming in behind me. I sat across from Lizzie and she sat beside Lizzie.

"Your hair is so pretty," Lizzie said as the carriage started moving.

"Thank you," I said, "Your hair is beautiful as well. Like golden sunshine. It matches your happy energy so well."

"Thank you!" she said, smiling wide like a four year old child.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"A dress shop I absolutely love. They'll be able to find something that matches your hair and your eyes, I just noticed, they're so beautiful as well."

My eyes? They were deep purple as well. I thanked Lizzie anyway and listened as she chattered about how excited she was for the party, about how pretty her dress was, how pretty Paula's dress was, and how she had dressed up the servants.

"Oh, what's your name?" Lizzie asked.

"Chiyo," I said.

"Chiyo. It sounds so cute!"

When the carriage stopped, she practically shoved the door off its hinges and leapt out. She pulled me into the shop as soon as I touched the ground and brought me to the sales lady.

"She needs something that matches her hair and her eyes too!" Lizzie said, bouncing in place.

"Alright," the sales lady laughed, bringing me to a changing area.

"Try these!" Lizzie shouted, dumping three dresses on my lap. I fumbled to grab the dresses so they didn't hit the floor. Then the sales lady came back and began to help me change into the dresses. After two over frilly numbers with colors that matched in theory, but clashed with my hair violently in reality, the final dress ended up the obvious winner.

"I looks good, but it's so dark!" Lizzie pouted, putting her forefinger on her chin. "I have an idea!"

She raced back to the front of the store and found similar dress, but it had a more silvery color and glittering silver embroidery along the front of the bodice and front of the skirt. The sales lady helped me to change again and when I was finished, Elizabeth jumped up on a chair next to me and put a silver necklace with a blue green jewel in the center around my neck and wrapped a white shawl around my shoulders.

"Much better. Those touches of color lighten everything up!"

"Lizzie, this is beautiful, but I couldn't afford this, even if I had been working for longer," I said.

"Oh nonsense. I'm buying it for you. I want everything at my party to look beautiful and be all dressed up and that includes you."

"I don't know..." I said softly, fiddling with the skirt, "If you do, then maybe could you skip the necklace. I don't think the color works quite well enough."

"Sure," Lizzie said, "Wait, I saw another one that might work better."

Lizzie ran back up to the front of the store and came back with a black choker that had a light green gem in the center.

"There! That's perfect!"

I looked in the mirror and it was perfect. My eyes seemed to stick out a little more with the pleasant contrast of green.

"I think I'm ready," I said.

Lizzie's eyes lit up and I realized I had given her my first real smile since starting the dress shopping. I was genuinely happy with the way I looked. I gave her another smiled and she squealed and bounced as Paula paid the sales lady.

"I need you to drop me off back at the cafe though, Lizzie," I said.

"Of course!" Lizzie said, "Although, I still don't why Ciel invited a baker girl to the party."

I realized that Lizzie didn't know about the cake and I was glad I hadn't mentioned it. Lizzie took me back to the cafe and waved her hand quickly as the carriage pulled away. Just as I stepped out of the carriage, I realized I was on the other side of the street. The street was empty so I crossed, but out of nowhere, a carriage came flying around the corner. I jumped out of the way as the horses continued to whiny loudly in complaint, them and the driver disappearing into the distance. I got up from the ground, shaking slightly. Fortunately, it was a cold and dry day and I was able to easily brush the dust off my dark dress. As soon as I had regained my composure, a second carriage pulled up, the horses being guided by a blonde man with a cigarette hanging from his lip and a...pink ribbon tied around his head.

"Oy, get on in. Mr. Sebastian said for me to pick up the cake, you, I'm assuming, Miss Kurenai, and your anxious friend. The name's Baldroy."

"Yes, I'm Kurenai," I turned back to the cafe and opened the door, "Franklin, a servant from the Phantomhive manor is here to pick us up."

"Right!" Franklin yelled, "Come help me bring this out."

I pulled a chair from outdoor seating and used it to prop open the door. I ran inside and took one side of the cake while Frankling picked up the opposite and we walked it out carefully, quickly recognizing the pace we wanted to share. When we came out, Baldroy had the door open and took my end of the cake. I stepped inside and they eased half the cake box onto my lap and Baldroy held up the other end while Franklin squeezed in, then set the rest of the box on Franklin's knees so it was suspended between us.
