I was laughing as the servants sang happily. They were excited to go on holiday. Ciel had invited them with to the queen's resort, however, I noticed a certain glint in his eye. It was the same look he had when he was about to bother Sebastian with something stupid. He was up to something.
Sebastian guided the carriage with Ciel while Tanaka drove the one where I sat with the servants.
"It seems we've arrived at the village," Sebastian said. I lifted my head and even though I had been expecting something terrible, seeing skeletons hanging from a tree with a run down sign saying "Houndsworth" beside it, was a new level. I looked Ciel in the eyes and raised an eyebrow and he only smirked.
"Oh, yes, I forgot to mention something; the queen's resort has yet to be constructed," he said.
I narrowed my eyes before shaking my head.
"Hey, someone lives here!" Finny cried, "Tanaka stop!"
Finny jumped out of the carriage and went to help an old woman pushing a baby carriage.
"Finny, don't lift up the carriage!" I yelled.
"You're going to hurt the baby!" Mey-Rin cried, jumping out of the carriage. Bard jumped out and helped me out. My spine has still stiff, even though the doctor had assured me that that would fade when I had finished healing entirely. I was wearing a loose corset for the first time in my life to hold my back straight, which didn't help matters either.
"I'm so sorry," Finny said, setting the carriage down.
"Is the baby okay?" Mey-Rin and I asked.
We looked in the carriage and both screamed.
"I swear Sebastian, I feel like you set this up!" I blurted, looking back at the butler. Both he and his master had suspicious smiles on their faces.
"You two scare me sometimes," I said, shaking my head.
"There is no baby anymore," the old woman said, "The child was eaten by he. The white dog is a good dog, good dog, good."
The old woman continued muttering to herself as she walked away.
"Ciel Phantomhive, what have you gotten us into?" I cried, immediately pursing my lips. I had never yelled at Ciel, nor called him by his full name.
He smirked, "Apparently, a lot of the villagers have been violently killed or gone missing. The village has shrunk to a third of its size in the last ten years. A part of my task is to find out why and put an end to the problem."
Bard helped me back into the carriage and I noticed Sebastians face twitch when Bard's hands were around my waist. I sat beside Bard and across from Mey-Rin and Finny, pretending I didn't feel Sebastian's icy glances.
As we passed through the village, it seemed run-down, but peaceful. A man was playing with and training his dog, which was adorable, however, I noticed Sebastian give the dog and man a dark look before facing forward. I hadn't seen a look like that since he talked to Franklin. Maybe I should get a dog to mess with him. Ciel's mentioned a cat allergy, but not dogs.
While he and Sebastian talked, I noticed I was getting strange looks. People were pointing and whispering, but when I made eye-contact, they smiled and waved. I inched closer to Bard, this time out of discomfort instead of to irritate Sebastian.
When we reached a dark castle, I and the servants were in awe. We were greeted by a slender woman with pale purple hair and wearing a maid's uniform. Even though Ciel had hired me as head house maid, he dressed me more like another noble, wearing relatively nice dresses in colors that I had chosen.
