I was hoping the day would be uneventful, however, Ciel was required to investigate a series of attacks that resulted in men being hung upside down by their ankles with insulting notes attached. I excused myself as Ciel talked to the inspector, who looked very irritated by Ciel's presence. Probably because Ciel was better at his job than the inspector was.
I wandered down the streets, knowing the Undertaker's shop was nearby. I entered the shop quietly, trying to find the Undertaker before he could appear from nowhere and surprise me.
"Welcome back, Deary," he said from behind me, making me jump.
"Stop scaring me!" I yelled.
The Undertaker snickered and went back behind his counter, "So my dear, have you come for directions."
"I came to ask again, if you knew what the man who brought my mother here looked like," I said.
"I've told you everything I saw, Deary."
"What about everything you know?" I asked, catching the tricky way the Undertaker worded the question.
"You're very smart," the Undertaker said, "However, sensitive information like that will cost you."
I sighed. "Do you know the difference between a horse and a dead body?" I asked.
"I suppose I do, but tell me," the Undertaker said.
"I don't have a horse in the stables."
Undertaker started laughing loudly and held his sides.
"You're always a pleasure to have around, Deary," he said, wiping tears from his eyes, which were hidden beneath his bangs.
"Now, what do you know?" I asked.
"I have my doubts the man was human," Undertaker said.
"Why would you say that?" I asked.
"There are a few reasons. First was the glasses he wore. There are standard frames worn by most like him. Second, he brought a woman from an entirely different town as though it was nothing. Furthermore, her corpse was waiting outside, not in a carriage, as though he had carried it himself. Finally, he was hiding his eyes. It's a very suspicious thing to do if you are innocently bringing the corpse of a friend."
"What do you mean, 'most like him?'"
"You'll have to figure that out yourself, Deary," he said, "There's only so much I can say. I will say that when you stole his glasses, he muttered something about 'this baby needs to stop stealing my glasses. I hate getting them replaced. It will throw me off schedule.'"
"You mean he hid his eyes like you hide yours?" I said.
Undertaker laughed softly, "Now don't go poking around in my business, Deary. You're looking for him, aren't you?"
"Who?" I asked.
"That reaper," Undertaker said, pausing and covering his mouth with his hand, and then giggling, "So you got it out of me."
"It was a reaper?" I asked, "Which one?"
"My dear, there are many reaper in this world. You'd never find the one you're looking for."
"Maybe not alone, but I've got a tea date that may prove very enlightening. Thank you, Undertaker, but if you withhold information from me again, I will not come back again."
"I'm sorry my dear, but you see, he would've been very angry had I shared this information," Undertaker said, "I'm sure you'll find him though. You're smart and you're stubborn."
