The alarm blared as Emma slowly opened her eyes sighting the rays of light that peeked through the window.
"Morning already?"
"Yep." Her mum responded from the door wearing a lovely smile.
"Get ready sweetheart."
"Oh yeah!" She shot up realizing they had to set out early for her dad to return on time.
"And why was mum smiling so brightly? I'm leaving today, aren't I? So what's happening-"
Dismissing the thought, she quickly got into the bathroom to take a shower. Moments later she was done and was getting dressed.
Doing a final check of the room and of course, herself in the mirror she took her suitcase and began to descend down the stairs with it.
"What are you doing Em?" Her mum asked trying to take the suitcase from her.
"You should let your brother carry this. It's too heavy for you."
"No mum I can handle it. I'm almost there and by the way-"
She slowly let out a deep breath.
"Today's the day. Alisa- I just don't want to bother him."
She said in a breath.
"Goodness! No!" Mrs Blake exclaimed, hand over her mouth in shock.
"Why? How? I totally forgot. With all this drama going on, you leaving, work and all-
She paused and cupped her daughter's cheeks. Tears stinging her eyes as she tried to hold them back.
"You remembered. You do know this is one of the reasons I am going to miss you right? My little pumpkin."
"Mum don't get all mushy on me now-" Emma teased pouting cutely.
"Ok. Ok ok before I start tearing up," she said fanning her eyes.
"But you know what Em? Your brother's stronger than you- than we think. That incident isn't man enough to bring him down. He'll get through this." She said wearing a sad smile.
"After all that's what she would have wanted for him. Soon enough, he'll come to realize that fact." She added in an airy voice but quickly sniffed wiping her tears away trying to return to her normal cheerful self.
She shouldn't be crying so early in the morning. Not today or at least for the next few days. She needed to be some sort of strength for her son.
"Come and get your breakfast ok?"
Finally settling the luggage on leveled ground, Emma walked towards the dining table and took a seat ready to devour the meal before her.
Halfway done, her mum suddenly called her to the sitting area.
"Matthew!!!" She excitedly jumped and hugged him tightly.
"You're up! What-what are you doing up this early? I thought you were still asleep. You should get some rest or something you know." She added smiling but obviously the happiness on her face betrayed her words.
"I was, but you don't expect me to let you go just like that now do you." He snuggled her a bit before letting go.
Taking gentle hold of her shoulders as she stood expectantly, he whispered into her ear and spun her round.
"One more thing. Got you a goodbye present."
"Rosie?!!" She didn't realize she was already hugging her tightly.
"I thought I wouldn't see you before I left." She suddenly let go straightening up.
"Sorry. I get it if you're still mad at me and you should be but just hear me out ok?"
"No. No let me speak Em. I actually came to say that I'm sorry. For getting that mad and leaving you in the dust. Really I am. You didn't deserve that and I realize now how selfish that was."
She paused and looked towards Matthew.
"He actually came over yesterday and explained the whole thing to me. Whether I wanted to listen or not. I really didn't have a choice. Practically chewed my ear off." She chuckled and so did Emma.
"Yep that really sounds like something he would do. "
"I wasn't mad at you because you were leaving. I'm truly happy for you and getting into 'The Elite' I'm sure was no joke I mean I can't even dare think of-"
She paused noticing Emma was laughing quietly.
"I'm rambling again aren't I?"
"Little bit, little bit."
"Sorry. It's just I was so upset to hear you were leaving and from Lisa of all people arggghhh!!!" She rolled her eyes very annoyed.
"But Matt made me realize my error. We may not have these moments forever and it would be wise to cherish and enjoy them while we still can. So here I am." She smiled taking a breather.
"I'm sorry and would love to reclaim my rightful spot as your right hand woman." She looked to the floor then up at Emma nervously and said almost in a whisper.
"If you'll have me of course."
"What? Of course. Yes silly. Of course I would." Emma happily held Rosie's hands.
"It's me and you for life right? Rosie and Emma; Rem or Emsie? " She added giggling happily while Rosie tried to decipher her last statement.
"No. No way. I'm not going to be called that and neither will you ok? We'll find something better. I guarantee it." She added laughing.
"I'm really going to miss you Em. Like a lot."
"I'll miss you more." Emma drew her in once more for a hug as her dad walked in with his car keys informing her it was time to go.
"I wish I hadn't been so mad at you, we would've crammed all the years of fun into yesterday." Rosie suddenly commented causing Emma to laugh hysterically and give her a playful punch.
"Wouldn't that have been a bit too much fun? It wouldn't have done us any good anyway. You would be exhausted for a few days and I would've been too worn out for today's trip."
Emma's dad cleared his throat briefly indicating that her time was up.
"I have to go now."
"Yeah."
"I'll call you. Alright? Make sure to always pick up." Emma hugged her one last time trying to hold back her tears.
"Of course I will." Rosie replied also holding back her tears and hugging tighter.
"You too. And don't go finding another bestie over there ok?" She warned smiling though a tear had already began it's journey down her face.
"Of course- and by the way I don't think that'll even be possible with all the bratty kids over there and all." Emma responded slowly letting go.
"Bye Rosie."
She grabbed her luggage and headed for the door but suddenly turned with curiosity plastered all over her face.
"By the way, how did you know about Lisa? Her expulsion and all."
"Oh that? I heard it from her minions in the bathroom, those girls just cannot shut up." She added with a chuckle. "Never trust the minions."
"Never Have I Ever." Emma chuckled followed by Rosie who got the reference she was making to the popular teen romance series which they binge watched together in one night.
She turned back to her dad.
"Let's go. Won't you properly see me off?"
"No, nah I'm good right here. I'll leave right after you. I really can't see the car leave or I'm going to cry a river." She emphasized the last part smiling though her eyes were already glistening.
"Bye byeeeee." Emma waved at her happily before leaving the house with her luggage.
Rosie knew she said she didn't want to watch her leave but- She watched the car drive away from the window while sniffing quietly.
Drying her tears and straightening up, she turned to Mrs Blake.
"So what's for breakfast mum?"
