Rushing behind Dom we burst into the house to find Quinn on her knees picking up fragments of glass. Thousands of shattered fragments that for years have been moulded together to form a elegant crystal vase. Something that my wife has held dear, an object that was full of elegance, memories, sentimental value. A vase that was one of three made in this world, commissioned by Nona Taylor's for Quinn, Sky and someone else.
My eyes roam around the large entryway, taking in all of the mess. A dent in the wall beside the door and behind the table that had the vase on. Glass and remain ants of water on the floor alongside the now mixed roses. Some broken some fine. Kinda like my wife's heart right now.
Focusing on the movement behind Quinn I study the body sitting on the second to last step on the stairs. Head in his hands, tucked between his knees. His shoulders rise and tremble as he cries into himself. The sniffles echoing around the house.
Looking away I turn my focus to Dom, since entering the house he headed straight for Chris, knowing that's what I needed and that his women can handle herself. But also trusting that if she needed someone I'd step in just like I know he'd do for my baby.
'Can you get him out of here? I'll help Quinn tidy and clean down here before going up to check on Sky.' He nods his agreement, his gaze flicking to his girl before turning away and focusing on Chris. He steps over the glass on the floor and places a hand on Chris's shoulder. Making him jump before he raises his head until he's meeting his gaze. He sputters for a moment, so many words and noises coming from his mouth at the same time making it damn near impossible for anyone to understand what he's trying to say.
With my emotions at an all time high and somewhat unpredictable I ignore him. Not bothering to acknowledge his presence within the room. I know he turns his attention over to me and Quinn from Dom but I don't pay an attention. Instead, I walk to the little closet down the hall and grab the broom, mop and bucket. Walking it all down the hall back to Quinn to help clean up the mess.
'What happened?' I ask. Her eyes red and puffy. He made her cry. I've never seen Quinn cry, if that's any indication whatever happened whilst we were away must have been horrible.
'He was here when we got back. We didn't know what to do. Sky was exhausted and just wanted to get into bed. I wanted to keep her safe and stress free but we didn't have the key for the garage and there wasn't another way into the house. So ... we had to make a break for it. Together we walked up the drive and towards the front door. I managed to get Sky inside without damaged but as I tried to shut the door he jammed his foot in between. I tried Bryan. I fucking tried to push it closed and stop him from getting in but he used his full weight.' Fresh tears trickle down her red stained cheeks.
I reach across the glass between us and take her hand in mine. Trying to tell her without words that she did nothing wrong. I'll tell her that and more soon but for right now she needs comforting.
