The silence in the car was enough to drive Sage crazy. She hated it, especially after everything that just conspired. She couldn't even bring herself to look at the former duelist, whom she loved with all her heart. Well, used to.
She stared at her hands on her lap with nothing but pain in her eyes. There were no signs of understanding from the latter, definitely not after what she'd heard. She felt the tears forming in her eyes and bit her lip hard to keep them in place. She felt her hands shaking with every passing minute, clutching them harder and harder to keep them still.
Finally, the white haired duelist broke the silence with a sigh. She turned towards Sage with a look of frustration and a bit of irritation.
"Sage, you know I loved you. But, I just don't know how I feel right now."
Those words alone were enough to nearly break Sage's composure down to tiny pieces, but her formality kept itself sustainable by just a mere thread. Her throat ached in pain as she gulped, refusing to make eye contact with Jett.
"Look, we're just-- we were good, and I loved you." The latter started. "It's just, things can happen sometimes and it can confuse people..- I'm not saying I didn't love you. I just want the best for you and for me, and I'm sorry it ha--"
"Stop."
Sage interrupted the duelist abruptly, a tear from her right eye falling down to accompany it.
She finally looked at Jett, who looked more agitated than concerned for how Sage was feeling. She was able to see the slightest hint of surprise on the duelist's face in reaction to her crying, but for a mere second before Jett looked away and sighed, placing her hand on her forehead.
Another moment of silence took place. Sage was staring at Jett with a hopeful but disappointed look and Jett returned that look with looking out the window, thinking of what to say. But, no words came out. Instead, Jett sighed a frustrated and agitated breath, then swung the car door open and slammed it shut. Sage sat in shock and silence, hearing the duelist stomp her way behind the car.
Suddenly, she heard the voice of Phoenix from behind the car, talking to Jett.
"How'd it go, bruv?" He questioned nonchalantly.
"I don't even wanna talk about it." Jett replied almost instantly. "Can we just, go?"
The sound of the two duelists made Sage want to vomit all of the regrets that were stuck in her throat upwards, all over her dress. Not even a second later, she felt as if a waterfall were falling down her face with a huge wave of air accompanying it. As if the whole word had despised her so much in that moment, that it had placed a huge boulder on her shoulders.
Sage began breaking down, crying uncontrollably yet silently. Wiping her tears and face with her hands and wrist just for it to pour down all over again, falling silently onto her beautiful black dress. Letting go of this much stress had the healer surprised she had even suppressed that much in the first place, making her tears fall harder.
Suddenly, a gust of wind entered the car. Sage was not in the mood to see the duelist again, and especially not in her current state of weakness. She refused to look up at Jett, internally begging for the latter to just leave her alone.
Have you not caused enough damage? Can you not let me weep in peace?
But, a voice came. A voice that wasn't the duelist's.
"Never in my life would I have expected you to cry so hard, cariño." Reyna abruptly said, situating herself on the seat where Jett had previously occupied, with the door closing behind her.
