(quick little note; I'll be changing the titles for each chapter by the time this part is published)

Sage was preoccupied in her room's personal shower. The water was hot, and steam filled the bathroom. Sage loved the feeling and sight of fog and steam, because it brought her a sense of calm. But right now, it was the only thing keeping her from crying.

She didn't hum the usual melody she hummed whenever she was frustrated. She just couldn't find a sense of peace in it. The festive Holiday spirit couldn't help her, either.

Her fists clenched tightly, as she reminisced everything that had happened between her and Reyna earlier that day.

The two had been on a last minute mission with Jett and Skye in the early morning, and it dragged on until noon. In the midst of being attacked by Mirror Earth's VALORANT agents, Reyna and Sage could be found trapped behind the large box in A Main on Pearl. They were being attacked by both sides, and the two others were struggling with their own fight.

Reyna had clearly been frustrated, while Sage kept her composure, yet was still under the pressure of fighting off all three Mirror Earth agents without dying. Her head had been spinning, a dangerous fever that she brushed off. But, she had Reyna with her, and the two could do anything together. At least, that's what she told herself.

Unfortunately, Sage decided to peek around the box at the wrong time, as she was shot in the arm, followed by a bullet merely missing her temple. She retreated to the back of the box once more, healing herself while grunting in pain. Reyna noticed the shots she had taken, and bit her lip and what sounded like an initial remark.

"Ha.." Sage gasped for breath. The healing process was fast, but not enough to stop her from breathing heavily from the impact. She looked over to Reyna, who was shooting the Mirror Earth agent near site. She was being a burden by peeking, and she knew it. Her head continued to ache in pain and dizziness.

Reyna retreated, as her arm was hit. The angle she had held gave her a clear disadvantage, and she paid the price for it. Sage quickly pulled out her heal, but was stopped with a glare from Reyna.

"Are you not able to handle a single agent?" She rudely remarked, causing Sage to look surprised. Reyna rarely ever, if ever at all made a rude comment or remark towards Sage, yet now that it happened, she couldn't help but feel more useless than she had already told herself.

"I-I'm sorry. I just can't think stra-" Sage began, before she was cut off by the duelist.

"Whether you can or not, you take the damn risk!" Reyna began raising her voice towards Sage. "Making sure you're safe while fighting back at the same time is not the easiest, Sage." Reyna was not calming down in the slightest bit.

But, Sage's eyes widened. "If you could just try, maybe we can get out. Don't repeat what you couldn't do back then. You couldn't even save your own people!" Reyna finally shouted out.

As soon as those words came out of Reyna's mouth, the former realized what she had just said, and stopped instantly. She looked at Sage with a look of shock and disbelief that she had blurted that out, but the look that Sage returned was only a look of pure pain.

"Cariño, I-" Reyna tried correcting what she had said, but was stopped. She finally managed to look Sage in the eyes, and realized that the former had tears streaming down her face, with a facial expression that could only be described as utter agony and hurt.

But, Sage decided that, that was enough. She turned away from the duelist, peaked the corner, and shot Breach straight in the head, just as the other was about to pull out his flash and rush in. She then went around the box and saw Fade half behind the wall entering into site. She shot at the agent, and heard a grunt of pain, then a body hitting the ground.
