He gave me a knowing smile as we pulled up to the house. I looked at the clock on the dash and it read 9:03. They were going to kill us. We slowly walked into the house and found it completely quiet.
"I'll go look for them if you make some coffee," I say to Ryan as he nods. I tip toe up the stairs and find Chase's room empty so I head to Jacks. I peek my head in and find them all on Jack's king size bed, watching cartoons. Jack, Chase, Julian and even Nick are watching The Little Mermaid with Amelia in the middle.
"Come on in, we want to see a proper walk of shame," Chase says quietly.
"Okay, so I guess you don't want coffee and donuts," I say with a smile. They all groan and get up to follow me to the kitchen. I walk over and wrap my arms around Ryans waist and settle my head on his chest. After last night, it feels weird if I am not touching him. He seems to agree by pulling me close and kissing my forehead.
"I hope the sex was worth our sanity," Julian grumbles.
"It was and if you don't stop griping, I will tell you all about how good your brother is in bed," I say as I sit on Ryan's lap. He chokes on his coffee at my comment and tries not to laugh.
"I don't care if we have to hear about it, I needed your help last night," Chase says with a sigh.
"No, you need to figure out how to do this without relying on G for every little thing. We needed last night and you need to learn to do this by yourself. I'm not saying we aren't all going to help but this isn't our responsibility," Ryan says as he holds me close. He knows I hate feeling like I let one of them down.
"I taught you how to do everything the night before, so what happened that you weren't ready for?" I ask pointedly.
"I wasn't ready for her to scream all night," he said with a frown. "I don't know how to help her."
"Let me see her," I said, holding out my hands. I quickly took her and looked in her mouth to check her gums. "She is teething. It is rare for a baby to start teething this young but it happens. It means her gums are in pain, so it helps to get something cold from the freezer for her to suck on."
"See I told you I needed you last night," he grumbles as he takes Amelia.
"And I needed to be with Ryan last night," I said without guilt.
"Okay, maybe you are right. I should start reading some books and get her a doctor to help with everything," he said while looking down at her.
"You know how much I love you both. I just think that if I do everything for you, you are going to miss some important moments," I say as I crouch down in front of them. I kiss them both on the cheek and feel a few tears fall down on my own.
"Baby don't cry," Ryan says as he turns to Chase, "Look what you did."
I laugh at his big brother's voice and wipe my tears away, "I'm fine, I promise," I say before kissing him.
"I'm sorry I have been taking up all your time. I am gonna figure this out, I promise," Chase says.
"What if you apply to Grandma Jean's?" Jack asks. Grandma Jean's is the best daycare in town, it's run by an old friend of ours, Hailey. Grandma Jean was also Nonni's best friend.
"Isn't Hailey running it now that Grandma Jean stepped down?" Chase asked.
"Yeah, and Nonni helped design that place so you know it is nice," Nick says.
"That's a good idea," Chase said. "Julian, you think you can come with me?"
"Yeah, no problem," he says with a mouth full of donuts.
"Well, I don't know about you guys but I have to run an errand today before lunch with Pops," I say, standing up.
Ryan pouts, "What is it? Can I come with you?"
"Not this time mio caro, it's a surprise so I will tell you when I know more," I say as I kiss his cheek before heading upstairs to change. I changed into a pair of black business pants and a fitted red blouse. I straighten my hair and add a little mascara to my eyes. I slip on some black heals and grab my purse. I head downstairs and say goodbye to the boys.
"I will be back in a couple of hours," I say as I walk into the kitchen.
"Well, hurry back, okay?" Ryan says before he kisses the hell out of me. I wrap my arms around him and hold him tight.
"Okay maybe just one hour," I whisper after we pull back. He smiles and kisses me one more time.
We finally broke apart and I grabbed my purse before kissing the other boys on the cheek. I picked up Mia and cuddled her close before handing her back to Chase. I head for the door, wanting to make this a quick trip.
