thanks once again to Izzy_the_Weeb for another great headcannon idea :)
obviously adam is the most responsible out of him, shiro, and keith. so before he leaves the house to run a few errands or something, he tells the both of them to eat healthy and be responsible and make good choices and don't be stupid, etc, etc. and keith and shiro just keep nodding and agreeing and promising that they won't make a mess of things.
then he leaves. adam doesn't have to know that keith and shiro have a secret candy stash. he also doesn't need to know that they both stayed up all night probably watching football or something. (keith might be 12 or 13 at the time, maybe older) then adam comes home and finds them passed out on the couch and obviously everything is a mess.
then the next morning he orders them to clean up, probably like a strict mom. but then they all get ice cream and it's ok. also he's pretty sure that killing your fiance and practically adopted son is illegal. so there's that.
