Chapter 3

Nick POV

"So I turned to Toby and I said-" I was telling Caroline an edited version of how Toby and I met when we were interrupted,

"Caroline" A girl asked coming up to us. I could sense she was a witch, the power she emanated was impressive. But she'd clearly had no practice, "Who is this?"

"I'm Nick" I greeted stretching out my free hand to her, "New Kid"

The witch gently touched my hand and I could feel the spark of power coming off her, "Bonnie" She introduced herself eyeing my hand suspiciously, "Bonnie Bennet"

"Any relation to Abigail?" I asked, remember when I met the other Bennet,

"She's my mother actually" She admitted glaring at the floor, "But she never showed up"

I nodded, not in pity. But in understanding, "Absentee mothers. I understand that believe me"

"Well before we let this drive us to depression" Caroline interrupted, making me thankful for her being there, "We have histo-"

However she was cut off again, "CAROLINE!" a familiar voice called out,

"Will people stop interrupting me" Caroline cursed

I turned to see who had called over and my breath caught in my throat, "Katerina" I mumbled out of habit,

"What?" Bonnie asked me,

I dismissed her by playing dumb and ignorant, waving her off, "Hi Elena" Caroline smiled. However I could tell there was some impressive acting going on from the fake smile,

"Who is this?" the doppelganger asked,

"I'm Nick" I greeted, much colder than I had with Bonnie. Let's just say I had a history with doppelgangers,

She wasn't fazed by it though, I don't think she even realised to be honest. However I did see Caroline give me a weird look from where she was still holding onto my arm, "Nice to meet you. I'm Elena"

"Hi" I grimaced before dragging Caroline away, "Bye bye"

Before anybody else could get a word in I'd pulled Caroline into a classroom and sat down on a desk towards the back of the classroom,

"What was that about?" Caroline hissed, "Elena didn't do anything?"

I chuckled lowly, "Is that why you looked like you were about to deck Elena?"

"I- I wasn-" She stammered trying to look for a response, "How the hell did you figure that out?"

I smirked and tapped the side of my nose, "Who knows?"

"You're a very interesting guy Nick" She told me softly,

I sat back in my chair and smirked, "I know love"

We both laughed slightly at my response until students began to fill the classroom. Eventually all the seats were full and the teacher entered the lesson, "Right I hope you've all done your summer reading" he announced, "Because you've got a pop quiz on it right now"

The whole class groaned, myself included. I was just going to go with it when Caroline decided she would stand up for me,

"But Mr Tanner" She apposed, "Nick wasn't even here before summer"

"Well he can sit it out then" Tanner scoffed, glaring at the blonde.

But I'm wasn't having that,

"Just out of interest Mr Tanner" I spoke up, interrupting the glaring, "Which book is it?"
