Chapter 5

Nick POV

In my challenger we sped through the streets, Caroline squealing in the passenger seat. As I laughed at the blonde we finally pulled up to the Mystic Grill,

"That fast enough for you Forbsey?" I laughed turning off the engine.

She looked at me like she was about to kill me. Again. "Do you even have a license?!" She screeched making me subconsciously raise a hand to my ears,

"Yes I passed first time love" I answered, "I am a very skilled driver"

I don't think I've ever seen a woman get out of a car so quickly in my very long life. I quickly followed her and chased after her into the grill, "Darling, come on It's not that bad" I laughed as I finally caught up with her and slung an arm around the Blonde's shoulder, "You're just not used to speeds like that"

She 'humphed' and marched away from me still,

"Come on Caroline, we've only just met you can't hate me yet" I told her,

She hesitated at this, slowly turning back around to face me, "You're sorry?"

"Of course sweetheart" I chuckled,

"And you're never going to do it again?" She demanded,

This time it was my turn to hesitate, "No promises" I laughed before pulling her into the grill, "Now where are those friends of yours. The bennet and bitch face"

"Bitch face?" She asked confused, "Whose bitch face?"

I chuckled and pointed to where the doppelganger was sat with Miss Bennet, Matt and Tyler, "Bitch face" I confirmed,

She scoffed and whacked my chest with her purse, "Be nice Nick"

"Fine" I whined like a child walking over to her, "Elena, Bonnie. Lads." I greeted the four teenagers,

Bonnie smiled at me whilst Elena grimaced slightly. Nice to know the feeling I had towards her was mutual, "Hi Nick" Bonnie answered my greeting, "Hiya Caroline"

I released Caroline's shoulder as I sat next to the Bennet Witch, "So Matt told me you have a nice car Nick" Elena tried to break the ice, "A Mazda or something"

Somehow, in completely synchrony, Matt, Tyler and I all scoffed, "A Mazda?" Tyler asked,

"Emma my car is a beautiful, beautiful Mercedes-Benz 300. Not some crappy Mazda" I argued,

She glared at me when I said this, mumbling under her breath about how her name was actually Elena. But before she could say anything to me, Matt cut her off:

"Babe his car is more expensive than yours, mine, Bonnie's and Tyler's combined" Matt laughed, "I can't believe you've got one Nick"

I fiddled with my daylight ring, analysing the way everybody was acting. It was a habit I'd picked up over the years, whenever I entered somewhere new. I was broken out of my thoughts by Caroline's voice, "If you liked that car you should see the one he's got outside?"

"You got another one?" Tyler asked, attention fully on me now as I smirked at the group,

"What Car?" Matt copied his friends attitude, ignoring his girlfriend and eyeing me,

I held up the keys, "70s Dodge Challenger"

"You're kidding?" Tyler laughed, "You got a 300 and a Challenger?"

I nodded, "I got friends in the right places"

"Dude you are definitely my best friend" Matt laughed going in for a high five which I happily reciprocated,

But when I pulled my hand away I shook my head at the blonde boy, "Well Toby's got that spot I'm afraid. You're welcome to fight him but I wouldn't fancy your odds"

Everyone laughed slightly at my answer, before we fell into a nice silence.

"So Nick where were you before this?" Bonnie asked, "Sounds like you're not from round here"

"I travel a lot" I admitted, recalling the lie I'd told again and again, "France, England, Brazil all sorts"

They all seemed impressed by my answer, especially Caroline, "How about originally?" Elena asked, "Where you from?"

"Right here" I laughed gesturing to the surrounding area, "I was born in mystic falls, but left the country a few years after I was born"

"So you're returning home?" Tyler asked, "It's a small town. Who are your parents?"

At the mention of my parents my eyes fell to the my hands in my lap and I started messing with my ring again. I was extremely thankful when I felt Caroline's hand slip into my own and squeeze it slightly, "How about we order drinks hey?" She quickly changed the subject, "Milkshakes all round?"

I smiled at the blonde, trying to convey how thankful I was that she diverted the attention away from myself. A slight nod from her was all I needed to know she'd understood me. I ushered a waiter over to our table. When she turned up everyone gave orders until it came to me, "Peanut butter blast, whipped cream on the bottom" I ordered making everybody give me a funny look,

"What?" I asked, "It's my favourite"

They all laughed again at my reaction before the waiter left to get our drinks, "So Nick" Matt brought back the questioning, "You got a girl we need to meet?"

"Not anymore" I sighed, "There was one a while ago, but she... er she broke my heart" I admitted.

Once more Care's hand slid into mine,

"Oh I'm sorry Nick" Bonnie soothed,

I shook my head at their apology, "Don't worry, ancient history"

"What was her name?" Elena asked,

For the first time I stared straight into the doppelganger's eyes and let out a sigh, "Katherine"

"Her name was Katherine Pierce"
