Chapter 14

Toby POV

Caroline lay in Nick's bed in my house. She'd finally just about healed from the amount of vervain that was in her system and the wounds she had sustained. With a gasp she woke up, not quite having the strength to fully rise out of bed or be fully aware.

"Toby..." She whispered,

But I left it to someone else to greet her. Nick appeared from the shadows dressed in a black hooded street coat and dark jeans, "Relax darling" he soothed, "I'm here now"

Even in her still delirious state she recognised him. Every inch of her relaxed at the sound of his voice, and with a smile she slipped back into sleep.

"I hate wolves" He sighed as he moved a strand of hair out of her face, "Tyler is lucky I didn't rip his head off"

"She cares about him" I reminded him,

He turned to look at me, his green eyes piercing my soul, "I know" he reminded me, "And by the way I do not get jealous" He scoffed,

"She was Matt's girlfriend with the compulsion and Damon raped her" I informed him.

The glass of bourbon he had picked up smashed in his hand and his vampirical features came out, "They're dead" He growled,

"I thought you were keeping tabs on her?" I questioned,

"I knew about the Matt thing, not the Damon" He growled,

Well, Damon wasn't going to be alive much longer, "What else do you know?"

He turned back to me again, eyes filled with rage, "That the Salvatores are going to pay for everything they did to the woman I love, and especially for killing my daughter"

A few hours later Caroline awoke once again, this time with plenty more strength. But her head was still slightly fuzzy. As she sat up I handed her a glass of blood, "Easy there blondy" I chuckled, "You had a hard night"

"I had... weird dreams" She told me, still confused, "I thought.... Nick..."

"Yes darling?" His voice rang throughout the room as he entered. His coat from earlier discarded leaving him in a simple black jumper,

Her eyes finally landed on him, In a flash she was out of bed and wrapping her arms and legs around him, "NICK!" She screamed,

The old vampire held her, chuckling, "Hello beautiful"

Refusing to let go, she sobbed into his shoulder, "I can't believe you're here"

"You were in danger, of course I'm here" He responded,

I could already see that there was no way I could separate these two love birds today, so instead I just enjoyed the reunion between the duo.

"How long can you stay for?" She asked,

Finally releasing her, Nick smiled softly, "Well Niklaus knows about the doppelgänger and is on his way anyways. I think it's about time we levelled the playing field"

"You have a plan?" I asked him,

Thank god the man nodded, because we were nowhere near a plan, "I've spent a while searching for a way to beat him, and I might just have something"

"Hit me with it" I laughed jumping up in excitement,

Unfortunately In his usual style, he shook his head, "Not yet. There's still a few preparations I need to make before the plan could work"

"Well then, what are we waiting for?" I asked, "Let's kill an Original"

"All in due time Tobias" he calmed me, "I think we need to pay the Salvatores a visit first"

Now we were both grinning.

— Line Break — 

Without warning I broke down the door to the Salvatore house and sped in. Damon, Stefan and Elena were stood in the main room in their weird love triangle situation. In an instance my hand was around Stefan's throat with a stake aimed towards his heart. Damon tried to charge me but Caroline soon had him restrained with a stake in his stomach. 

"Stefan!" Elena exclaimed, whilst her eyes drifted to Damon. I had to stop myself scoffing at the bitch. 

"Relax, we're not here to kill him. I just need leverage" I chuckled, "I just need you to let my friend in" 

Lightning cracked outside and Nick appeared in his dramatic fashion. Head down, hood up. 

"Why would I?" Elena challenged, 

I pushed the stake slightly into his chest, "Because otherwise I'm going to put your little boytoy here 12 feet under" 

"Isn't it 6 feet?" Caroline asked, 

"He's already dead. Technically he's already 6 feet under" I shrugged, before twisting the stake further into his chest, "And I'm running out of patience" 

Elena's look turned into one of panic, "You can come in" She yelled towards the door. 

In a flash Nick had Damon pinned against the wall. Caroline had taken a step back and allowed her boyfriend to have his fun. 

"Hello dickwad" He growled twisting the stake in his stomach, "I need to have a word with you" 

"Do I know you...." He gasped out, 

Nick flipped his hood backwards, and Damon's eyes widened, "I think you've heard of me, and you definitely knew my daughter" 

"Daughter?" Elena's voice squeaked, 

"Well not biologically, but i still raised her and turned her. My Alexia" He sighed, 

"Lexi" Elena whispered, I heard Stefan whisper my name as well. Bunny boy had figured it out. 

"Yep, and lovely little Damon here put a stake through her heart" Nick laughed humourlessly,

Panic was obvious on Elena's face now, "Don't kill him, please"

Another dark laugh came out of Nick's mouth, "Unfortunately Doppelbitch, my daughter's last wish was to not kill them. So no, I'm not going to kill him. Instead, when it matters, when it hurts the most, I will rip everything he loves away from him" 

Finally he snapped his neck. 

"So until then, just know I'm back. And until Niklaus arrives, I'm your biggest threat. Nevermind Elijah" Nick laced his arm through Caroline's, 

"Caroline...?" Elena asked, 

Nick snapped his finger, "Shit I nearly forgot" Speeding over to Elena and forcing her to look at him he smirked, "Remember..." he whispered, 

Her eyes widened as all her memories came flooding back, forcing her to stumble back slightly. 

"We'll leave you with that" Nick laughed. Before linking arms with Caroline again and waltzing out with me following just behind. 

It was nice to have him back.
