Nik POV
"Toby I'm Home!" I sang as I waltzed into the house we currently shared,
The blonde vampire sped into the room I was in, an unimpressed look imprinted onto his face, "And what time do you call this?"
"Well someone needed my help to look after them overnight. So being the generous man I am, I happily obliged" I told him immediately. I definitely hadn't rehearsed this answer in the car,
"Nick, did that someone happen to be a blonde cheerleader?" He asked with a raised eyebrow,
I rubbed the back of my head awkwardly. I'd never been able to lie to Toby properly, he knew me too well. There were only a few people who knew me well enough to know when I was lying. My family, him and I suppose you'd have to count Katerina. But I don't know whether she'd be able to anymore,
"It may have been her" I admitted with a sigh,
Toby laughed as he poured me a bourbon. Oh come on don't judge me! It's 5'oclock somewhere, "You two are getting pretty close Nick"
"Don't Toby" I warned, accepting the drink and taking a sip, "Don't go there"
"Why not Nick!" He exclaimed exasperated, "It's been 398 years since you last let someone in!"
He didn't back down, but neither would I, "You know exactly why that is Tobias. After Katerina you know what happened. You were there!"
"Yes but I'm also here now! I've watched Caroline and the rest of them grow up! They are nothing like Katerina. Well maybe Elena is but Bonnie? Tyler? Matt? Caroline?" He carried on going, "They are nothing like that bitch"
Hesitantly I nursed my drink, pondering his words, "She's human Toby" I revealed another anxiety of mine to him, "She'll grow old and She'll die while I'll stay 17 forever"
"You could-" He started but I immediately cut him off,
"No way am I turning her. To take that choice away from her, her life? Kids? A normal family? Who am I to take something like that away from her?" I asked him and I could tell by his expression he accepted my view,
Without answering he down his glass of bourbon and placed it down onto the table. Running a hand through his hair, he sighed and gave me a look that I could only interpret as 'you're an idiot', "Nick you don't let yourself be happy. You may have this confident façade around you that can fool all the humans here, but I've known you for the better part of 800 years. I know you. You turned me, you helped make me who I am today. So listen to me when I say Caroline Forbes is good for you. You're hidden mate, no one will find you here. Live a normal life for once"
His words rang through my head like church bells on a Sunday morning, "Let me think about it Toby" I asked him, "I get what you're saying, but just let me think"
"Okay"

Toby POV
Okay so maybe I didn't just let him think. It's about time I told the story from my point of view. I bet Nicks been telling you how he's the coolest, has the nicest car, the best fashion. In reality, I bought him those cars and a mutual friend got him hooked on suits.
But one thing he's never been good with is women.
So being the outstanding wingman I am, I decided I'd lend my oldest friend a hand. I headed to the Sheriff's house in my Aston Martin V8 Vantage coupe (Beautiful car), hoping to meet a certain Forbes girl. When I knocked on the door, my hopes were fulfilled when the bubbling blonde cheerleader flung open the door, "Hi Toby right?" She asked me, eyeing me up and down,
I nodded, "Yeah Nick's friend" I told her, "And that's why I'm here to talk to you"
"Oh?" She asked,
"Can I come in?" I asked, hoping she wouldn't just say 'yeah'
"Sure" She agreed, opening the door wider, "Come on in"
I stepped over the threshold and smirked slightly, thank god she invited me in. Makes this easier.
She lead me through the house to the dining room, where she poured herself a cup of Coffee and asked if I wanted any, "If you wouldn't mind" I accepted, taking a seat at the table.
When she had finished pouring the coffee, she sat down opposite me and gestured for me to talk, "Okay so I need to talk to you about something. And It's something Involving Nick" I revealed to her,
"It is?!" She exclaimed, "Why hasn't he told me about it?"
Sighing I fiddled with my old engagement ring from centuries ago, "Because something happened a while back. Something that ruined him"
"What happened?" She asked straight away, invested in the story,
"Has he told you anything about a woman named Katherine Pierce?" I inquired, praying to whatever god that was out there that Nick had. Otherwise he would rip my heart out,
She nodded, and I let out a sigh of relief,
"Thank god, that would have been awkward otherwise" I chuckled lightly,
She tilted her head to the side slightly and raised an eyebrow at me, "Who was she?"
"Katherine was a nice girl, to begin with. She was polite, well mannered, kind. She was also incredibly beautiful, all the boys at our old school fancied her" I began explaining,
Caroline picked up on my words, "Everyone?" N
"Everyone" I agreed realising where she was going with this,
"Does that mean you were as well?" She asked fiddling with her mug,
I nodded,
"Especially me"
