"Well Cadith, welcome aboard." Engie said. I silently sat down next to Pyro and looked out the window. The darken sky loomed overhead the trees that entered and exited my eyesight in less than a second. Everyone went back to what I assume they did before I jumped onboard.
"Here. You're gonna need this to be fully accepted." Engie said handing me a red tee. I smiled but I didn't put it on. Everyone here, except for me and maybe Pyro, are guys! I can't do that! That's way too embarrassing! I continue to look outside until I heard Soldier and Engie talking in a low voice. I scooted over a bit to hear what they were talking about.
"I don't know why this maggot girl is on this train. It's for men and men only!" Soldier exclaimed while keeping his voice low.
"Cadith has potential in her. We should keep her here." Engie said quietly.
"I'll keep her so she can do the chores!"
"Soldier, women can lift their weight too. We shouldn't underestimate them."
"You do what you want! I don't like this maggot on my train!" Soldier said before storming off into another train car probably to sleep like everyone else.
"Night Cadith." Engie said before leaving me alone in the car.
"Night Engie." I said while looking through the window. After making sure that no one was looking and spotting the light switch, I turned off the lights and changed my white tee into the red shirt that Engie gave me. The shirt was big and had this musty smell to it, just like my bed. I turned the lights back on and slept on the red seats.I woke to Soldier yelling in my ear to wake up. I think I lost a bit of my hearing because of Soldier. He told me to follow him so I could get breakfast. We went through two cars before reaching the dining car. Both cars we went through had beds in them. 4 beds total in each car. Someone besides me slept somewhere else. Everyone except for Pyro was eating breakfast. There were red (no big surprise here) cushioned benches. There was a small kitchen behind a counter with red stools. Okay, I'm going to be honest here, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WITH THE COLOR RED?!? Sighing, I walked to the small kitchen. Pyro was there with a little white chefs hat. He/she/it looked very cute in a chefs hat. I smiled at Pyro and looked around the kitchen to make some breakfast. Not much food was in the kitchen but everyone was able to eat something. I sighed and left the dining car with no food in my stomach, which is normal for me. My town wasn't very rich and had poor soil for the plants to grow so food was always in short supply. We usually ate 1-2 meals a day, with most of us skipping breakfast, including me. I walked through the two cars with the beds and sat down in the car I slept in. I thought about my dad, how's he's probably reacting, Leah, how she's probably reacting and my mother. She had this heart warming grin, good humor, her cooking (something that I miss very much. My dad isn't the best cook in the house), her optimism, and-
"Yo what's up?."
I forced the palm of my hand into someone's face. When I got a glimpse of who it was, I looked through the window, not impressed by their action. It was Scout. Now, if it was Engie, I would've apologized right on the spot since he's really nice to me.
"Thanks for shoving your hand into my face." Scout said holding one side of his head.
"You deserved it." I replied looking at him through the reflection on the glass.
"Toots, ya want any food?" He asked still holding his head.
"Nah, I'm good." I replied.
"Ya sure?"
"Yeah." Scout left the car and I saw Spy looking at me behind where Scout was standing.
"What do you want?" I asked bored. No answer. I paid no attention to him but I can't help but sense his gaze on me. He did this until about noon. Medic entered the car and said that lunch is ready. I let Spy go first, for two reasons. 1. My mother taught me this ever since I could walk. 2. Something tells me that Spy is not good news for me. Lunch was a simple grilled cheese sandwich but I didn't complain. This is a treat in my town but apparently, it's nothing more than "peasant food" as Spy puts it. I ate in silence as I listened to Soldier and Demo bickering about something. I cleaned up after everyone or I'll be sleeping outside for a week when we get our base. Guess who made me do that shit?It was about 9 PM when we arrived at our base. A woman in a short purple dress and glasses greeted us at the station.
"Ah, welcome! I'm so glad you'll be serving Dynasty. I'm Miss Pauling. I'll be showing you your rooms." Miss Pauling said walking swiftly to the base. Scout and I easily kept up with her while everybody else has lagging or struggling to keep up. Cough cough Heavy cough cough. The base was rather large but I think I'll get used to this place. Miss Pauling showed us the rooms after giving us a brief tour of the building. Heavy got the first room, Medic was right next to Heavy's, Demo got the room after that, then Soldier, then Engie, then Sniper, then Pyro, then Scout, then Spy and finally me, getting the last room in the hallway. I opened the door and saw that the room itself wasn't that big, maybe a foot or two longer than the room in the townhouse I lived in. I had two windows, a cot, a small dresser, an empty bookshelf, a small desk, and a personal bathroom(toilet, sink, and a shower). I walked in and laid on the cot. It's not really comfy but it'll do for now. I dug my face in the pillow and fell asleep. This might be the worst or the best decision I ever made.
