After days of hearing Niall on the phone with different attorneys and going to secret meetings it was finally decided. Niall wasn't kicked out of One Direction. Everything could go back to normal for Niall. But he and I had to sign a contract which had several rules about how our relationship would be conducted. We could still be together but we couldn't control our relationship ourselves anymore. It wasn't just about us any longer.
I didn't mind so much. What was most important to me was that Niall was still in the band. I think I couldn't have lived with myself if he would have gotten kicked out. But Niall took it hard. He didn't like the idea of not being in control of his life. He was so tired of people controlling his life. It really hurt me to see Niall like this. He didn't have his silly smile on his lips anymore. He was struggling and didn't let me in.
One week had passed since we signed the contract . Niall had picked me up after school and we were sitting in his kitchen eating takeaway. I told him about my day and tried the whole time to keep the conversation going but Niall wasn't participating, it was like he wasn't even there. I had had enough of this. Everything happened so fast. One minute I was sitting down eating, the next minute the food was on the floor and I was standing close to Niall screaming everything I was feeling.
"Don't you understand? The contract doesn't matter. It doesn't destroy our relationship. YOU DO! You have to let me in, Niall, tell me why this affects you so much. We can deal with it together."
Niall looked up at me and I could see that his eyes were tearing up. He stood up and hugged me tight.
"I'm so sorry, Ash, I shouldn't have pushed you away. It just feels like I always let you down and destroy everything. Every time I try to fix something a new problem comes along."
"None of that matters", I replied. "No contract or problem in the world can keep us apart. Nobody can control how we feel about each other."
Niall wiped a tear from his eyes, took my hands and said: "Together."
"Forever."
