All is Fair

Shadow got no chance to speak as Sonic ran towards him, knocking against him so hard they toppled over and began to pummel down the sandy slope towards the water. Shadow shouted incomprehensible things and spat out sand as they rolled, while Sonic clenched his eyes and mouth as he held tightly onto Shadows waist.
Once they stopped rolling, Sonic was slightly bent into Shadows stomach with his legs on one side. Shadow was faced against the ocean, he opened his mouth, but was cut off by Sonic crying, "I'm so sorry!"
The blue hedgehog was burrowed into the black fur, as if he was trying to suffocate himself.
Shadow smiled and hugged him back, "you don't have to be. I hurt you." He couldn't hold back the biggest smile he ever had. Sonic was wet but warm, his fur shaking with the wind.
"I shouldn't have done that! It wasn't fair! I-"
"Nonsense." Shadow bent down and kissed the top of Sonics head, "you were being a hero."
Sonic sniffed, "I shouldn't have.. pretended to not-" he choked, "to not like you anymore."
"I pushed you, twice. I get why you did."
Sonic mumbled something while digging his face further into Shadows stomach.
Shadow joyfully rolled his eyes and pulled Sonic up by the chin, staring into his eyes.
"I missed you, so much." He kissed Sonic, who welcomed it excitedly. They shared lips for a few moments before Sonic casually stuck his tongue inside Shadows mouth, inching his body closer. Shadow could feel it and grabbed Sonics leg by the upper thigh, lifting it over so that he was sat on top, knees digging into the sand.
It seemed like an eternal moment as they kissed, grabbing each other's faces and quills, Sonic played with Shadows black ears, pinching and petting them, which made Shadow giggle.
They pulled apart simultaneously, Sonic smiled, his face flustered, "I missed you to."
"I don't want to apart again." Shadow mused.
Sonic squealed under his breath, "it-it wasn't that long."
"It was an eternity." Shadow kissed his neck and chest, reaching around to hold him by his lower waist.
"I want to tell you," he looked back into Sonic eyes, which were reflecting the water in front of him, making them look like emeralds, "I loved you before all this."
Sonic stared, "what are you saying?"
Shadow sighed a great breath of release, "I've been in love with you for years, ever since that day you nearly fell off a burning building. I loved your spirit, your affinity for seeing the best in people. I loved your desire for adventure, and your passion for your friends. I stayed away so much because every time I saw you it was like you kept getting further away," they watched eachother closely, "you didn't feel the same, and that was okay but it still hurt. So the other day when the Doctor said it was all fake.. I.. well I didn't want that. I didn't want it to be fake, I was so scared."
Sonic nodded, "you're really dumb, you know that?" Shadow tilted his head in question, "you shouldn't have stayed away. Look at all the time we wasted. And Eggmans chemical thingy didn't do anything to me, ever."
Shadow grabbed Sonics hand and held it close to his heart, "you're right. I am dumb."
They chuckled.
"I love you, and its real, more real than anything I've ever felt before." Sonic blushed as he spoke, his heart beating rapidly in sync with Shadows.
A rather aggressive breeze blew past them, and they tucked together to avoid sand that crashed at their faces. They looked up, seeing grey clouds hiding the warmth of the sun. The air was quick to become chilly, and little water droplets fell onto the pair.
"It's going to pour!" Sonic cried.
Shadow laughed, "all the times I've been here, it's never stormed!" He tapped Sonics thigh and they stood up, brushing sand off themselves. Shadow took it upon himself to turn Sonic around and smack his butt clean. The blue blur had to bite his lips to keep from gasping.
"Come, there's something I didn't show you." He took Sonics hand and they began to run, at a relatively normal speed, towards the cover of the trees.
The thick leafs truly did not help much as heavy droplets cascaded through the branches and bolted down onto the two hedgehogs. They were laughing as they ran, voices being drowned by loud claps of thunder in the distance.
It was ten minutes before they came upon a rocky area, the base of the islands small mountain. Shadow quickly ran towards a spot overgrown by green and grabbed onto a large wooden plank, lifting it sideways.
"Get inside!" He called over the booming of the rain.
"Inside?!" Sonic called back, swiftly approaching Shadow and noticing an entrance to what could only be a cave. He smiled excitedly and entered, Shadow going in right after, closing the makeshift door as he did.
It was pitch-black, Sonic couldn't make out any shapes. He felt Shadow take his hand and guide him forward.
"A freaking cave! And you didn't show me before!" He was giddy with anticipation.
"I wanted it to be a surprise, it's not really ready yet."
"Ready?"
"You'll see."
They walked along a black path, Sonic bumped into rocky walls, not being careful in his eagerness. He always liked new things and most of all surprises. He knew this would be a fantastic one.
And of course Shadow did not disappoint. They turned a corner lit by a faint blue light and Sonic saw something he could only describe as beautiful.
A fairly large cave lit by glowing mushrooms of all colours lay before them. It's surfaces shining with damp, the ground covered in soft looking moss. There was a small waterfall coming from a hole and it filled a tiny crystal pond, many of the mushrooms were gathered on its edges.
Sonic looked around, taking in the scene and saw, across from the pond, a bed made from cotton, held together by a soft net. He looked up and saw rows of paper hearts strung above the bed.
"I wanted to add more, but it's been hard to find the time."
Sonic looked at Shadow, who had his head down, scratching his arm.
"When did you do this?"
"Um.. that week I was awol, I did do stuff for GUN but mostly I was here."
Sonic cooed, "we hadn't even confessed then."
Shadow shrugged, glancing at Sonic who wore a very calm expression. He was dripping and shivering, the cold from the rain started to set in,
"Oh, come," Shadow took his hand again and rushed him towards the little pool.
"Um, I'd actually like to get dry, please."
Shadow laughed, "it's a hot spring, this place is like magic."
They jumped into the water and Sonic sighed with relief. He could fall asleep here.
"How did you find this place?" He asked, paddling towards Shadow and resting his back against him.
"I know every inch of this island."
"So why don't you live here?"
Shadow didn't need to contemplate the question, "that requires ruining it. I love it like this," he looked at Sonic, "I really love it."
They lay cuddling in the water, Shadow did not want to let Sonic go.
"Hey, Shads?" Sonic whispered.
"Yes?" Shadow replied, his eyes closed and his chin laying on Sonics head.
"I'd like to try something new."
Shadow couldn't reply as Sonic dissapeared under the water.
A blush swooped over dark cheeks as he felt Sonic kissing around his crotch from in the water, blood followed the trail of kisses and Shadow grew hard.

Shadow thought for a moment, "no, this is perfect. The world is at relative peace, our friends are safe. We wouldn't have been able to do this back then."
Sonic nodded, "you're right."
Shadow apologized as he proceeded to clean out Sonics insides, who didn't mind at all.
They got out of the spring and shook themselves as dry as they could, strolling the Shadows homemade bed.
They lay down, looking up at the origami.
"Those are terrible." Sonic pointed out upon inspecting them closer.
The pair laughed.
Nothing could ruin this.

Except...

Doctor Eggman had hidden himself so expertly that the townsfolk reacted to his appearance as if he were a ghost. They ooed and awed as he walked his way through town with a purpose, not stopping for idle chitchat or to buy any fresh food, which he did miss dearly in his absence.
But he was on a mission. The blue rodent was not at his garbage hut, so he must inform the pesky fox, who was also seemingly out and about.
Cubot and Orbot followed him, chattering stupidly behind him about their little quest.
"You two idiots need to shut up before someone overhears." Eggman snapped.
He finally made his way to where he knew the fox would be, at that disgusting nut delicious restaurant they liked so much.
"Ah, hello!" He waved as four heads looked at him.
"Eggman!" The pink hedgehog shouted, getting off her chair and pulling out her hammer, "you have a lot of nerve showing up here after what you caused!"
"Your face will get stuck if you keep making that expression. I am here in peace but mostly scientific curiosity." He looked at the fox, "I need your private opinion on something."
The yellow fox looked at his friend and shrugged, "sure?"
"Great, do follow." Eggman hopped away towards an empty table. The fox followed him, sitting opposite him.
"Take a look at these and tell me what you see." He handed over a pile of papers and a large chart with a printed image of the digestive system of a mobian hedgehog.
"Um.. I see the internal organs of a female hedgehog."
"Look again."
The fox squinted at the image and opened his eyes wide.
"This- is this-?"
Eggman nodded, "yes. It is exactly what you think. It appears the chemicals meant and designed solely for Shadow have been changing the reproductive structure that belongs to Sonic."
The fox's face shriveled in shock and discomfort.
"He has a womb."
