"Will you sit still for a second?!" Shadow was exasperated, for the past ten minutes he had been coaxing a wriggling, protesting Sonic into taking a quick bath to clean his matted fur in the warm oasis that rested in their little cave. He did not understand why there was so much fight back from the blue hedgehog, he had been in this water before, even going so far as to hold his head underneath to please Shadow. Sure, Sonic was afraid of water due to his inability to keep himself afloat, but such a shallow puddle? Surely there was some other reason he was clinging onto a large pointed rock that shot out from the ground.
"No! I don't- want- to!" Sonic wailed, kicking his feet back and forth as Shadow tugged on them in an attempt to pry him free.
"Why the hell not?" Shadow dug his heels into the earth and pulled with all his might, finally ripping Sonic free from his little safe haven.
"I just don't!" Sonic cried as he was hoisted over a black shoulder and hustled towards the water. It reflected in shimmers across the cave making every surface a moving work of art.
"I know you've always been a little bitch about water, but this is too much, we can't go back looking as disheveled as we do." Shadow plopped Sonic just in front of the water and began to remove his shoes and gloves, ensuring to use the utmost care as to not startle the fidgeting hedgehog. This made Sonic blush internally, he adored how gentle Shadow could be.
"Because- it's-" he scratched his head once his claws were exposed, "it's embarrassing."
When the other glove came off, he attempted to make a run for it but Shadow was quick to react and just held him in place by the chest, "embarrassing how?"
Sonic glanced at the glowing bath and gulped, "it- stings."
Shadow raised his brow, asking for more information without verbalizing the request.
"You know- like- down there-" Sonic gestured to his nether region, "and there-" he pointed at his bitten ankle, "and also here." He waved his hand around his nipples, which poked through his peach chest, two pink little spots.
Shadow bit his bottom lip, Sonic had no idea how erotic he was being.
"I see, well, I hate to say it but, tough shit, no way I'm letting you prance around like this. Everyone will think I beat you or something."
Sonic shrugged, "I mean, you sort of did." Shadow grimaced, he didn't much care for that retort and to show it, he pushed Sonic and watched him fall backwards into the water, chuckling manically to himself.
"Hey! Ow!" Sonic stood up so he was half in the air and circled his hands to allow cool air relax the stinging he was experiencing. "Not cool!" He stuck his tongue out and shot the middle finger to his lover.
"Come." Shadow stepped down into the small pond and pulled Sonic towards him, scrubbing away at the dirt and smoothing out the patches caused by dried semen.
"I bet the others are super mad right now." Sonic said, attempting to steer his thoughts from his pain.
"Probably, but they've got each other to keep them company."
"What about the plan?"
Shadow huffed, "we've still got a couple days, I'm not worried about it." He lifted Sonic's tail and starting scrubbing beneath it.
"Hey!" Sonic cried, wincing and smacking the red and black hand away, "what are you doing?"
Shadow raised his palms upwards and shrugged his shoulders, "fine, you do it then." He sunk into the water until only his head was above the surface, smirking as Sonic shyly began to wash himself.
"You're loving this, aren't you?" He said as he cupped some water and splashed his face, enjoying the warmth.
"I'm just so used to cleaning you myself, it's cute how bashful you get." Shadow twirled around in the hot spring, giggling to himself, "I really love this place."
Sonic couldn't help but feel his heart skip as he stared on at Shadows little water dance, seeing such an intimidating brute bounce around while snickering was infectious, he began to join in, dipping into the water at the same level as Shadow and spinning in circles while laughing.
They shared this moment, allowing themselves to forget about all the issues that plagued them. They splashed each other playfully and went on a back and forth game of who could make the bigger wave, Shadow was a clear winner after he moved his arm so fast through the wave he created toppled over Sonic and sent him spinning below the surface, he broke through gasping for air while his partner belly-laughed.
"Oh yeah?" He challenged, lunging towards Shadow and dragging him down. Shadow could easily avoid this but allowed it to happen, the smile Sonic had stretched across his face was so beautiful he wouldn't do anything to risk it vanishing.
Both were now fully submerged, Sonic's eyes were shut tight, he didn't like the feeling of water against them, but Shadow had no issues seeing through the foggy field. He saw the smile still plastered to Sonic, teeth showing as air escaped his mouth and all Shadow wanted in this instance was to hold on forever and never let it go.
Shadow grabbed two peach cheeks and pulled his one and only into a deep kiss, feeling Sonic's body relax as he melted into it. They then caught their feet and stood back out of the water.
Once surfaced, their kiss continued, Sonic's hands were pressed against Shadows chest fluff, he was attempting to get as close as he possibly could.
They stayed that way for a while, until the air grew chilly on their wet fur. Shadow was the one to pull away, he stepped out of the hot spring and held his hand out, "come." He said.
Sonic happily obliged, taking the hand and hoisting himself out, trailing behind Shadow as he returned their shoes and gloves and brought them to the makeshift door of the cave.
"We're leaving already?" Sonic asked, looking sadly to the light leaking its way inside.
"We'll go for a run to dry off and then, yeah, we've kept them waiting for too long now. It's already mid-afternoon."
"Oh, okay. Right." Sonic mumbled, he didn't want to leave at all, he thoroughly enjoyed when he got to be alone with Shadow and to have to return to the oncoming fight and probable emotional damage wasn't something he wanted to exactly rush towards.
Before they hit the door, Shadow abruptly turned to Sonic. He shared the same sentiment, he truly detested the idea of going back to the shit-show and all those faces eyeing him. He took Sonic into a hug, nuzzling his face into the nook of the blue neck.
"I love you, so much. No matter what happens, remember that." There was a stutter to his words.
Sonic held tightly, he didn't know the perfect way to convey himself, this feeling exceeded love.
"Shadow, you brought out a side of me I didn't know existed," he sighed and closed his eyes, "I love you to, more than anyone could ever understand."
Shadow cleared his throat and let go, "let's go, there's a lot of people waiting on us."
