It's been 3 days since the man left a meal for me and my mom on my truck and I was sad that I hadn't seen him again but then again he did say that he didn't really like McDonald's and it's not like I would be lucky enough for him to be interested in me even though Cecil has told me every day since then that he's pretty sure he was very interested and even checked me. but I'm pretty sure he was just saying that to make me feel good.
Today I sat on the couch watching TV with my mom glad that it was the weekend so I had two days off from my jobs.
The walls of the living room were a light terracotta color, the floor was hard wood oak and the furniture was a pale gray
I got up when the commercials came on and went to the kitchen to get a drink.
The kitchen had the same walls and floors as the living room although the design on the floor had diamond shapes. There was a oak and polished marble island with matching counters and cabinets. In the right corner there was a dinning table and chairs.
I walked over to the sink and turned on the water then grabbed the electric kettle and filled it with water. After putting the kettle back and turning it on I grabbed to mugs from the cabin and same tea bags and sugar from another.
When the kettle started to steam I turned it off and made tea in the two mugs then walked back to the living room and handed one of the mugs to my mom before sitting down with my own mug.
"Commercials still going?" I asked
"Don't worry, you haven't missed anything. Not that you don't already know everything" Mom teased.
So maybe there was a Star Wars marathon and maybe I was a huge fan who had already watched each movie over a hundred times.
"I still don't want to miss any of it" I said
"Have you ever wanted wanted to be a singer but felt to scared to go on a stage for fear that you sound horrible?" A man on the TV said
"Well now's your chance! All you have to do is send in a CD of you singing to Olympus Studios and if we like it you'll get a letter in the mail and if not you don't have to stand there a listen as we laugh or yell at you because you sound worse then a dying man" the man on TV said
"I think this guy is as little to blunt" I said
"Just a little" Mom said
"Why don't you send one in?" Mom asked after a moment
"I don't think I'm that good. Besides so many people are going to do it so I doubt I'll make it" I said
"You don't know until you try, worst thing that can happen it you don't make it" Mom said with a smile.
"You're right, maybe I'll try" I said
"Make it or not, I'll still be proud of you for trying" Mom said as she hugged me.
Later that day I went into my room.
The walls in my room were a soft light bage color the floor was a soft gray carpet. All my furniture was oak and my bed had a light blue comforter.
Everything about this house was colored to best brighten it up and draw in the sun.
I sat on my bed thinking of what song to sing and none of my old ones felt right as most of them were written before I had come out, even though I had only come out to my mom and my close friends I still couldn't lie in my songs anymore so I put them away then I grabbed a pencil and a blank music sheet and started working on a new song. After a few hours I got the first part done and sang it to the tone I made to see how it all fit together.
"Some seem to see me as strange cause of my ways.
Like how I dream of holding his hand down at the bay,
A knee on the ground as I ask him to be mine
Or our wedding day while his looking so fine. But no matter what people say I'll keep on believing.
And if they try to change who I am then I'll be leaving." I sang and I may or may not have pictured the man with the black eyes as I sung. I stopped when there was a soft knock on my door.
"Come in" I said
"Sounds nice" mom said as she opened the door.
"Thanks, I hope they like it" I said
"Of course they will, you've got your father's talent for music" mom said
"I miss him" I said picking at the strings of my guitar. My father wasn't the best when I was a young child, he wasn't home a lot but when I was 15 my grandfather forced him into the army much to his displeasure but as time went on he slowly became a better person, he cared more about others and he smiled more and when he got to come home for a short time I became very close to him and even sent home a letter every week after he had to leave again and he would always reply, my favorite letter being the one about his new commanding office who's name was Meg and who was young enough to be his kid but me and my mom haven't heard from him in 3 months.
"I know, I miss him too. But I know that he would be proud of you" Mom said as she walked over and sat down next to me on the side of my bed
"Do you really think he'd be ok with the fact that I'm gay?" I asked
"No, I don't think he'd be ok" Mom said and I felt like my heart was about to break but then she continued.
"I KNOW he'd be ok" Mom said with a smile
"Thanks mom" I said and she pulled me into and hug.
"Take a small break and come eat dinner" Mom said as she pulled away.
The next day I finished my song and sent a CD in the mail.
