Chapter Thirty Eight: Lying Side By Side

I had just woken up from sleeping all night, by accident, on the couch.

Yeah, Elena and I fell asleep watching a movie last night. It was nice.

It's been nice, actually, since we talked, so props to my therapist for being correct like she usually is about stuff.

We've been on a couple more dates since then, though, and it's refreshing to go on dates again. The like, moment Paul moved in they stopped and I love going on dates. It's my favorite thing because it's just time for the two of you to spend together doing something you like.

So far we've gone to dinner, we went to a few museums one day, we had a stay home date, and we also went to the zoo in central park one day, which might've been my favorite one.

Back to the point, though, I had just woken up and was starting to make breakfast for us because she'll usually wake up not long after me when I heard a voice that wasn't in the apartment that scared the absolute piss out of me.

"Oh my gods, it worked!" I heard somebody yell, and it threw me for a loop, and I saw it kind of wake Elena up because who is yelling at like 7am in our apartment? "Mom!!! Hi!! I'm alive!"

Turning around, towards the voice, I almost fainted because, sure as hell through a rainbow that was shining through our window, Percy and Nico were there on an Iris Message.

So yeah. Almost fainted. Went into shock for a good... While.

"You..." And I covered my mouth as I could hear Elena get up from the living up. "you're alive! Oh my gods, you're alive! Where are you guys, are you okay? Are you coming home soon?"

"We're okay, Mom, promise," my baby boy promised me as I was on the verge of happy crying because he's alive and I have proof of that now. "Grover's here, too, but not in this room, doing stuff, but we're good! Hera uh, wiped my memory and I was in the coma until like, February and then I had amnesia until like two weeks ago but basically as soon as I got my memories back we had to leave because we have to go to Greece, and I tried calling once the day I got them back, but I didn't have drachmas on me and the payphones weren't working and now I have drachmas and today was day like, six of me trying to call. We're almost to Europe, though, I think! We have to stop in a few places to get things and refuel, but we're going to stop in Venice like we had planned for Nico's birthday to like, make up for that and yeah! I think August 1 is the day were supposed to go back to camp and if we have to go back the way we're getting there we'll be back closer to the 5th and there's probably stuff I'll have to do because it's camp, but I'll be home by my birthday! I promise. I had like, a very large breakdown the first night in the ship because I wanted to go home."

"It was really bad," Nico confirmed. "Who's behind you? Do... Why do I feel like that isn't one of Rachel's parents?"

Aka why does he feel like it's somebody who doesn't know about Percy's dad?

"Oh, uh," but I guess we're doing this now because Elena was just a few feet behind me, I think trying to figure out how the IM worked. "That's because it's not. Do you remember Elena, Percy?"

He racked his brain for a second.

"I remember you telling me about her because she's visited from Brazil a few times," my son recalled. "But I was super young the only time I met her so I don't really remember her. She visited when I was at Yancy but I was at Yancy so... Was she a friend? I know you guys talk sometimes."

"Yeah, we've been friends for about as long as I can remember," I confirmed Percy's theory. "She just moved here like a month or so ago, though, for her job, and—"
