This is getting old. Almost three years of losing my mind and I still can't be free. I've never seen the other side, the place called the Dreamland, so I won't exactly know what it actually is. I just want this to be a dream. I want to wake up on a bale in the farm, next to the barn cats. Run through the fields of tall grass, then have mom treat me for ticks. Just like she did before. That won't happen. Until this world is free, I won't be either.

Hours of walking had led me down a winding road. Twisting and turning at every point, bending and curving beyond the usual. Bricks cracked from years of pressure, just like us. When tested by this new world, we were all cracked. Most broke under pressure, but there has to still be some stones intact. Throughout the journey, when I gain hope or confidence, he always shows up. Today isn't any different.

'Is it Ryan?'

His laughter echoed before he spoke.
A venom almost lacing his tone.

"You're not gonna make it." His voice called to me again. I didn't reply back. No need to anyways. My ignorance must have been enough to get him to leave, but not without a tantrum. I felt the words on my arms reopen and fell to my knees.

"How dare you disregard me! I am your brother you fucking failure!" His voice echoed as new wounds opened. Soon I felt a warm liquid rush down my arms, then a metallic taste in my mouth.

"When I say jump, you say how high. When I say you're not worth the air you breathe, you apologise for the waste." He continued as I bled. His silhouette entered my view. Is this where I die? Before I even get to the safe zone? That's all I could think, until another silhouette appeared behind him.

"Who gave you a right to be here Ryan?" The pale silhouette said, grasping Ryan's shoulder with a firm hand. Not a word could escape his mouth before he was warped elsewhere.

I felt my wounds heal and the metallic taste disappear.

"Thank you, I'll find a way to repay you." I said as politely as I could have.

"You already have my boy." The woman's voice spoke. And just like that, the silhouette vanished. I stood up abruptly to examine the area. Nothing was there other than some blood on the cracked stone road and some more fabric from my sleeves.

'Who was she?' I thought to myself, curious to say the least. It doesn't matter now does it? I have a ton of walking to do.

The roads soon became repeated, every stone looked the same, every twist and bend became my dismay. I was losing hope, positivity almost depleted. Then I looked up after almost an hour of staring at the road to see the light. The person on the roof. Every day at the same time they'll light a fire and hold it up to the sky, to find survivors I think. I took out my light and pointed at the sky, like I did everyday this time. I wish I could see all the lights, if there are any left. Maybe when I see more people I'll tell stories of the skylight. That is, when I get there. I'm not even sure I'll make it. Even the road looked darker, and it was mid day! Wait. The road is darker! I must be close! That's the only logical explanation! My feet started moving on their own as I dashed down twisting roads

Freedom. Freedom at last. I have never been happier. Even if my legs feel like falling off,the darkened path had my hopes at their highest. The further I sprinted, the darker the path. I was close, or so I thought. At the end of the road, there was a vial. The ground below it was glowing. Whatever it was, maybe it'll lead me to the dreamland. I picked up the vial and felt a unique power flow through me. This is what freedom feels like isn't it? I love the feeling of being free. It hurts. I know i should be happy to feel freedom but this pain is torturous. Maybe this isn't freedom, maybe this is enslavement. I was so lost in my mind I didn't even notice the shadow creature behind me. Another guardian?! I started running down the path, pushing forward. I noticed the ground became lighter, almost pale. This is it. I looked up to see the bridge. Jamie didn't lie to me. I was going to be okay! I noticed I had to jump soon. I was still being chased. Soon I felt my legs launch me high up. Claws propelled me further. I was still in the air. So close. I can't die. Almost. Almost.

My eyes opened to see what appeared to be a light trail, carefully lit by what seemed to be lavender candles. The atmosphere seemed safe and welcoming, and my eyes were almost closing. I had to continue walking though. If I wasn't tricked, I'm on the other side of the world. Somewhere people only dream of going. A place of safety and kindness. Somewhere I can truly be free.

The Dreamland.
