But right after the comment left my mouth, and before I could explain what I meant, waitress stopped at our table.
“Can I get the two of you anything else?” she asked.I glanced across the table at Teju, her eyes still wide as she shook her head to answer the waitress’s question.
“I think we’re both good,” I said, and as soon as the girl set the two separate checks on the table, I reached for them
both and pulled out my wallet.“Umm, I can pay for my own meal,” Teju said. After what I’d said, she probably thought I was buyig her dinner because I expected her to put out in return.
But that wasn’t the case. I was Just trying to be a nice guy and implement the manners my parents had drilled into me.
“I’m paying for your meal because my father would kick my ass if I didn’t,”I explained with humor, and when her brows creased in confusion, I clarified further. “As soon as I was old emough to date, my dad taught me that it was my obligation as a man to pick up the tab when dining with a woman, because it was the polite, courteous thing to do. It doesn’t mean there are any strings or expectations attached,” I said, wanting to make that clear. “It’s jst what I’ve always done, and now it’s a habit that’s pretty much ingrained.”
“Oh, okay,” she said, her expression smoothing. “Thank you, then.”
“It’s my pleasure,” I said as I placed enough bills on the table to cover both checks, along with a generous tip, before addressing my earlier faux pas.
I lifted my gaze to hers more seriously. “So, about that offer I just made about a room . . . before you think I’m a total creep who just propositioned you, let me clarify that all the Hotel had available when I called was a two-bedroom suite, and I booked it because I wasn't about to hang out and sleep in the terminal until the storm passes. So, considering the day you’ve had, I’d like to offer you the extra room to stay in.”
She hesitated, which I understood, before asking, “Are you sure?”
I didn’t miss the hopeful note in her voice, and I discovered I liked being her white knight, the guy who cane to her rescue after her dumb-ass boyfriend’s stupidity in letting her go. “I’m one hundred percent certain. Besides, it’ll be nice to have a roommate for the next twenty-four hours. We can celebrate Valentine’s Day together by watching cheesy movies all night and gorging on all the junk food in the mini bar, then sleep off the sugar coma all tomorrow morning.”
She returned my grin, her eyes sparkling with delight. “Ahhh, cheesy movies and junk food. You sure do know how to sweet-talk a girl,” she teased.
I laughed as I pushed his chair back and stood. “And to think that you haven’t even seen some of my best moves yet,” I said with a flirtatious wink as I picked up my duffel amd grabbed the handle of her luggage befoe she could. “Come on, Valentine. Let’s get our slumber party started.”
**********
From the moment the ex arsehole boyfriend of Tejasswi Prakash closed the door on her face, she didn't had any hope of a better evening, until she met Karan. His smile made her heart flutter. Everything about him was charming and easygoing.
We were walking side by side and I was taking small glances at Karan. It's been just an hour we have been together but I hadn't find anything egoistic about him. I first thought of him as playboy looking for a hookup in a snowstorm when he first came to sit on my table, but he came our as a perfect gentleman.
Karan had been kind and understanding listening to my story while other men would have been uninterested in knowing it. In fact he even made me smile with his amazing sense of humor.
As we walked through the crowd, I didn't missed women turning their heads to stare at him but can I blame them. No, not at all, he is tall, we built, with blue eyes with little brown in them. He indeed is worth staring at.
Though he looked completely oblivious to all staring, or he was used to it. He wasn't at all cocky or arrogant about all the attention coming his way. I was finding him appealing.
During our dinner when he rolled up the sleeves of his shirt, his damn strong forearms had my attention. I have to accept everything about him made me wonder how he would look shirtless.
My heart skipped a beat and I scolded my mind for having such thoughts but my body wasn't ready to cooperate. U had a smiled stick to my face and was no even feeling guilty about my reaction to Karan, okay the way that arsehole made me feel that I wasn't enough physically, made me want to prove him wrong and give my body a satisfaction it hadn't felt in ages.
We reached the hotel and Karan went to reception to get keycard for the room. He bought two, and gave me one in order I need it.
He opened the door, kept his duffel on couch and places my bag in one room. He turned and looked at me with a smile. Now we were alone, like really alone and the attraction I had towards him made me wonder how will it feel if I took a step closer to him. Why he has to be a gentleman.
Karan put both his hands in his front pocket and said, " So, here is your bed and hot shower you needed and after that in case you want to sleep go ahead. Or if you are still up on my offer of cheesy movies and junk food, I will be hanging in the living room."
He turned to go, and I stopped him before he could leave. “Karan”
He glanced back, his expression unreadable. “Yeah?”
“I just wanted to thank you, for listening when I needed to vent,” I said, needing him to know how much I appreciated him being so kind and caring . “You’re a really mice guy, which is hard to come by these days.”
His face had a grin on it and he said," It's sometimes to overrated to be a nice guy." And left the room closing the door behind him softly.
