I woke up and I'm still in Ni-Ki's embrace, but he was already awake. He turns to me and smiles. "Good morning, bae. Did you sleep well?" I sit up. "Not really, I'm worried about Jungwon." Ni-Ki nods in understanding. He knows Jungwon and I have been best friends since 6th grade. "I'm going to take a shower," I say and get up to go to the bathroom.
I turn on the shower and turn it on hot because who in their right mind takes cold showers in the morning. Or at all. I take my clothes off and walk inside the shower. I let the warm water run down my body. I run my fingers through my wet hair and sigh. I can't believe Jungwon is missing. Is this my fault? My thoughts are interrupted by Ni-Ki yelling. "Make sure to leave me some hot water!" I shake my head. "I just got in here!"
We finish our showers, get our new clothes on and head out the door. "Where do you think he may be? If he wasn't kidnapped?" I ask Ni-Ki as we walk past a park with children playing around. "I'm not sure," He says with a sigh. "Let's check his job. Maybe he stopped by there last night." Even though I thought it didn't make sense for him to stop there, I nod and try to keep pace with Ni-Ki. He is taller.
We walk inside and walk to the cashier. "Excuse me. Has Jungwon been by here by any chance yesterday?" I ask. The man shakes his head. "No, he didn't. I mean, it was his day off, I wouldn't come here either. Is something wrong?" I shake my head and grabbed Ni-Ki's hand. "No, thank you though." And we walk out. "Why didn't you tell him?" Ni-Ki asked once we were outside. "He didn't need to know. We don't know if Jungwon was kidnapped or not yet, so it's best we don't say anything yet." Ni-Ki looks at me with a confused look but doesn't say anything.
The next stop was one of his friend's houses, Doyoung. "Maybe Jungwon told him something." I ring the doorbell and wait. But no answer. I ring it again. Silence. I was about to ring it one more time when someone opened the door. It was an older woman who I guessed was his mom. Her eyes were red, her makeup was messed up, and looked like she had a really bad day or night. "Hello, ma'am. I was-" "Tell me you know what happened to him! Please!" I take a step back. "I don't know what you mean." She starts crying. "M-my son. Doyoung. T-t-they found his body outside near a club last night. He had t-teeth marks on him. Oh, please tell me you know who did this?" She asked and she looked distressed. "I'm really sorry ma'am. I don't know what happened." I look over at Ni-Ki suspiciously, and he raises his brows.
"He was a friend of my friend Jungwon. Which is why I'm here, I was wondering if you knew anything about him? Did he stop by here by any chance?" She quickly shook her head, then her phone rang. "I-I'm sorry, I have to go." And she closes the door. We stand there for a second and then leave. I watch Ni-Ki carefully as he walks on the side of me. "Why are you looking at me like that?" "You didn't have anything to do with-" "No! Why would you even think that? I was with you the whole night." I turn my head to the side. "Not the whole night. When the party was over, you went home. At least, that's what you said." Ni-Ki scoffed. "I can't believe you. You actually think I did that?" He said angrily, but he also sounded a bit hurt, and I felt bad.
"I'm sorry, Ni-Ki. I don't know what I was thinking. I know you're not like that." I say and kiss him on the cheek. He pouts, "It's okay." I smile, happy that he's not mad at me anymore. "We should stop by his parent's house, right?" I was hoping he wouldn't ask. He doesn't know about Jungwon's family situation. "Um, yeah. We can try there." I say quickly. We walk a few streets down and reach his family's house. I was nervous since they never met me before. Not like I wanted to meet them after hearing how they treat my best friend. I ring the bell and pray that they don't answer, and they don't. "Oh well, guess they're not home," I say ready to leave, but Ni-Ki stops me. "Give them a second." Then, he rings it. This time they answer.
It was his mom. Oh brother. "Can I help you?" She asks as she looks at Ni-Ki and me. "Uh, yes. We're here looking for Jungwon." I say, not looking directly at her. "Jungwon? That weakling. *huff* I don't know where he is, nor do I care. He can stay lost. Who are you anyway?" Ni-Ki looks at me confused, and I mentally curse her. "He is not a weakling. And were his friends, Sunoo and Ni-Ki." I answer pointing to myself and Ni-Ki. "Ohh, so you're the boy Jungwon told me about when he had an outburst. Well, f*ck off." She says and slams the door in our faces.
Ni-Ki was, of course, more surprised than I was. "What was all that?" I shrug, pretending like I don't know. We start walking home and neither of us says a word. We make it to my house, and we sit on the couch, still not saying anything. I guess we were both pretty shocked by this. I ring Jungwon's phone once more, hoping he would answer, but it still went to his voicemail. "Hello, it's Jungwon. I can't answer right now. Either I'm busy, or I don't want to talk to you. I'm joking. Call me back. And if this is you Sunoo, Saranghae" I feel my eyes start to burn as they begin to fill up with tears.
Ni-Ki quickly notices and wraps his arms around me, as I cry into his shirt. "Please don't cry, Sunoo. We'll find him." He says. A few minutes go by, and his arms are still around me. Then I remember something. I pull away from Ni-Ki and smile, tears still going down my face. "I think I know where he may be."
