Week 5: The Unprecedented Kiss

Cameron felt like a thousand spiders were crawling on his back.

Whatever reason Lucas had to "insist" on walking to the kitchen with him, he couldn't be bothered to care. He didn't want to be there, but he also didn't want to be rude by saying no.

He was stuck for a reason to flee.

The air was thick with awkwardness, with Lucas being the first to put the dirty dishes in the sink, followed by Cameron who made as little noise as possible as he did. The blond decided to stay put and start washing them just to avoid engaging in any sort of conversation with the guy behind him who didn't seem to be going anywhere.

Of course, that didn't work.

"God, that's a lot of carbs..." Lucas let out, chuckling. Cameron wasn't sure what about that was so funny.

There's nothing worse than feeling out of nowhere irritated.

"Tell me about it," he responded blandly. "You can leave these to me. I got it."

As soon as the words left his mouth, Cameron could feel Lucas staring at the back of his head. Great, he thought. This is one of the reasons why he hated talking to people he barely knows. He always comes off as rude, whether or not it's intended.

"Cameron," Lucas called. Cameron couldn't explain how listening to his name in Lucas' voice made him so uncomfortable. "Cameron, can I call you Cameron?"

Cameron glanced at him for a split second before turning back to the sink. "You don't really have a choice do you?" he said.

"You're right. That was stupid. Sorry." Lucas shook his head. "Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"Did we get off on the wrong foot?" He went on, making Cameron pause. "I mean did I say something to make you angry or...?"

There was something about those words that sounded the worst kind of wrong to a man's ears. Particularly someone who didn't want to be there, let alone be spoken to when he'd clearly rather be left alone.

Cameron turned to Lucas, silently groaning at the sparking annoyance he felt in his chest. He had no idea what it was about Lucas that constantly makes him clench his jaw. Was it his hair? His face? It was frustrating to be kept in the shadows of his own emotions. Even more annoying than having to answer Lucas' question without sounding rude.

Nevertheless, he tried. "Who said I was angry?"

"You're not?" Lucas asked.

"No."

Cameron has his back turned against him, so he didn't see the way Lucas' eyes narrowed afterward. "Well, say that to your face," he said.

He obviously meant it as a joke, but Cameron found no part in it funny. It would have, that is if he didn't find Lucas annoying as he stood, were, and existed.
