Hi, baby, we miss you! Sunday couldn't come here soon enough 🚗💖💖🛣️😍❤️💖💖

Emery had gotten out of bed in high spirits, and that's when he decided that it was going to be a good day. Aside from his mom recently learning how to use emojis on her phone, there wasn't really any unfortunate drift in his life that could affect his mood in the next twenty-four hours. Unless, God forbid, Blake plugs in his grandparents' 1000-year-old karaoke machine again.

Well, that, and also, the recent crumbling of his first relationship ever.

Thankfully, Emery decided to opt for sanity and not let anything get in the way of this whole "being friends with your ex" thing. It could be easy if their other friends would just stop acting like they have to walk on eggshells around him and Cameron. It's been almost a week and Emery is getting tired of all the awkward attempts of Blake avoiding saying the words "break" and "up" in the same sentence, or Allison throwing stuff at Bryce and Ian whenever they act like a couple in front of Emery or Cameron. It was funny at first, but now it's starting to get old.

"Do you people think Cameron and I are stupid?" he asked, and Ian looked up from his plate, already knowing what this was about. The breakfast table isn't usually so quiet, especially now that they're supposed to "make the most out of being together for the last time" before they leave California, but the others were cleaning the front porch for the party tomorrow, which apparently takes precedence.

To Emery, it was kind of surprising that Ian still acted normal around him despite what he'd just found out a couple of days ago. If he didn't know any better, he'd think all of it wasn't as big of a deal as he thought it was.

Ian stuffed his mouth with banana as he answered, "What di' they do thish time?"

"Cameron and I are in a good place right now and you people are ruining it."

"How?" Ian asked.

"Don't play dumb with me," Emery said.

"I seriously don't know what you're talking about, Em."

Emery closed his eyes before slamming his hand on the table. "You guys are acting like we need help to stay friends," he muttered heavily.

Ian blinked at him. "Don't you?"

Well, so much for a good day.

The redhead groaned, banging his head on the table a couple of times before Ian had to intervene.

"I just need you guys to butt out," Emery said, words muffled by the back of Ian's hand.

"Really?" Ian stacked his plate over Emery's empty one. "You're saying you and Cameron have never had any awkward moments that required any of our assistance since you broke up?"

"Pfft. No?"

Ian narrowed his eyes at his best friend, as if saying, "Think again."

As much as he hated to admit it, despite making it clear that they were, for all intents and purposes, to remain as friends, he and Cameron had never really been in the same room together without anyone there to be a segue in case they needed it. The one time they did, Emery panicked and told Cameron he forgot to sew his pants before rushing to his room in the middle of making jjajangmyeon, leaving the poor man in the kitchen, confused. It was embarrassing, and Cameron ended up making everyone plain noodles because he had no idea what to do with the rest of the ingredients.
