Chapter 33

Bella's P.O.V

"Are you ready?" Dr. Hernandez asked, next to me. Once again, after almost five years, I'm back in this operating table, surrounded by doctors and nurses, ready for the next almost fourteen hours of operation.

I swallow, "Yes."

"Edward is right outside waiting with your mother and Phil and the rest of your family," he reminds me. Phil. I want to chuckle, but I don't. He's been dating my mother's for almost a year and I can almost consider him family.

I wonder if Alice is here, she's been busy with Matt her newborn baby. Or even Emmett and Rosalie, I heard Edward tell Carlisle that they suspended their traveling plans for this. I wonder what my little prince is doing, he's probably impatient to do something, walking around, asking random doctors or nurses random questions. I can totally see my little Katherine sleeping in Edward's arms.

"Sleep well, Bella," Dr. Hernandez said, placing the oxygen mask over my mouth and nose.

"I'll see you, soon," I say, before drifting off into a deep sleep.

~~~~ Ten Hours Later ~~~~

Edward P.O.V

After a couple of hours trying to convince my family to leave, have dinner and rest, they finally gave in.

"Call us, please, if anything happens," said Renee, holding my hand.

"I will. Go with Carlisle and my mother and have some dinner with the kids. I'll call."

She nodded.

"Bye, daddy." Bruno reached up and kissed my cheek. "I'll take care of me sister for mommy."

"Thank you, buddy. Mommy will come out really soon."

He nodded and took my mother's hand. After I'm sure everyone has left, I drop myself on the couch of the waiting room and look at the ceiling. I don't know how much time passes, but I sit there, waiting. I feel like a teenager again, I feel like I did when I sat here the first time, when she crossed those doors and I didn't get to see her beautiful chocolate eyes.

I remember when I first saw her, she was walking with Daisy. Daisy. I smiled at her memory. Our dog that died a year ago, before Katherine was born. Bella cried herself to sleep that night, in my arms, rubbing her swollen belly that carried Katherine. Bruno cried also, Daisy was like his best friend. He loved playing with her. But, dogs also have their old years, and Daisy couldn't take anymore.

I remember her irony when I said I didn't see where I was going and with a smile she simply said neither did I. She never let the darkness in her eyes take over her life. She's always been as bright as the sun, though you always have that moment of weakness where you think nothing will ever be fine again. Like when Tanya made her hate herself because of her disability, we went through it together. When the operation didn't work the first time, we went through it together. When I had to leave for college, we went through that together. When Bruno was kidnapped as a new born baby, we went through all the pain, fear and stress together and the best part is that we still are.

After a few hours waiting, I eventually fall asleep until Dr. Hernandez comes up to me saying the operation is finally over. 

"How did it go?" I asked, following him to her room where she was being sent.

"I have a good feeling about this, Edward." He opened the door of her room. "We'll take the blindfold off in about a week, just to give it time."

"So, there's a good chance that after you take them off..."
