I was dimly aware of being carried into the infirmary. A sigh left my lips. Not a really bad way to go. Just like most others, I wouldn't want to die, but we don't get to choose, do we?
Jeff clutched my hand, eyes welling with tears. We had been inseparable ever since we met each other during training. As moments passed, I slowly felt the feeling of Jeff's hand clutching mine, the voices of the doctors and the buzz of the rest of the soldiers following me, start to fade. I tried to speak, but it was futile. My eyes drooped close before I felt like I was being enveloped by a blanket. Just that this one was suffocating.
I tried to wave my hands and legs in a futile attempt. The cloth was starting to press into me, wrapping itself around me. It almost felt like being constricted by an enormous snake. Then just as it started becoming unbearable, it disappeared altogether.
I heard a laugh echo through the empty black space I was in. It seemed like it belonged to a little girl. I couldn't see anything, but could just hear the continuous laughing. It was oddly.... Comforting? Relaxing? I couldn't find a word for it. A sound of happiness in a place of uncertainty and confusion.
I was standing on a playground watching a girl play on the swing. Behind her was a large spacious house. Hell, it would have cost her parents so much. Probably millions of dollars. A few men stood a few yards away, eyeing her. The girl either didn't notice or was used to it. I guessed it was the latter. Just then a few boys broke into the ground, laughing and pushing each other.
The girl's laughter died immediately. She sat still on her swing, probably hoping to go invisible. The boys on the other hand roared with more laughter when they saw her.
"I want to swing on this!" One of them shouted at her. She gave him an icy glare, but didn't respond.
He pushed her and I watched unable to do anything as she landed hard on the ground, scraping her arms and legs. She cried for her dad, her mom, the men around her and she finally looked at the guy standing towards the back.
"Steve?" She called Hopefully, but he just snickered and stood. Anger rose in my heart. I may not know this girl, but that was no way to be treated. Before I could dwell in that thought longer, the girl got up.
She marched over to whoever had pushed her, looked him right in the eye. And punched his nose. She marched over to the second guy and kicked his balls. I flinched. No matter who got kicked, it still gave guys nightmares.
She strode towards the guy at the back and spit at his feet. She started moving towards the house, when those who were there to protect her, started following. She waved at them.
"If you won't help me at all, but just watch me. Then get lost. There is no need for you." She said, casting an icy glare at the men before running into the house. The rest of the guys just looked shocked. Including me. She had an immense sense of authority for a young girl.
What does this have to do with my...... untimely demise? I wish I knew. None of these were even in my control.
After that my vision went blank again and a small pressure started to build at the bottom of my stomach. A few seconds later another at my head. Then another at my chest. Soon my entire body had pressure developing from within. It started to grow and kept doing so until I felt like I was going to explode. Though, it didn't hurt. Not really.
Then my mind blanked out. Almost like I had fainted. Great. First, I die. Then I faint. Made a lot of sense.
A while after, I felt something streaming into my eyes. Ugh, couldn't I die peacefully? I slowly blinked my eyes open. I was lying down. On my bed. In my apartment. In Phoenix.
What. The. Fuck.
Okaayy, either that was all a dream, or I am messed up. I clutched at the place through where the bullet had passed. There was a small scar. A circular shaped one. So, I definitely hadn't been dreaming. I didn't know whether to feel relieved or terrified.
I got up and threw a tee shirt and a camo pants on. I had been naked when.... I came back? Resurrected? Now what was I? The Walking Dead? No compulsion for eating brains.... Yet. Vampire? Didn't want blood either...... Yet? God, what the fuck was going on?
I had to meet Natalie. I didn't know what was happening but hopefully seeing her will put some things into perspective. I went to the door. It was locked. Okay, I had asked Natalie to keep a spare key, she must have locked it and gone to her flat. I grabbed the real key and put it in my pocket.
I walked briskly towards Natalie's apartment. No one in the street seemed to even notice me. I didn't know what I had been expecting. Nat's flat was a few blocks away from mine. I had been there a few times too. After our meeting, we either ended up at my place or hers. I climbed the stairs two at a time. Since her apartment was totally four floors and hers was on the first, I usually preferred taking the stairs.
I tried knocking, but there was no response. When I tried the doorknob, I was surprised to find the door unlocked. So, I just stepped through the door, praying to God that she could see me, hoping I wasn't just an apparition of some sort.
I headed straight to the bedroom, stopping in my tracks when I saw what was happening. There was Natalie—my girlfriend—fucking another guy, moaning loudly. I recognized the guy too. I had found them at a restaurant I was going to Jeff with. She had convinced me that he was a relative. Yea, of course he was and I was a walking giraffe.
I stood watching in shock as his cock buried itself inside her, came out and went back in. Each buck of his hips eliciting a moan out of her.
My anger slowly faded from shock and gave way to the next one. Anger. Murderous rage. My vision went red. I could feel it coming off me in waves. I grabbed the guy and flung him across the room. He hit the wall hard, grunting in pain. I grabbed Natalie by the arm and threw her out of the room. What I did to the guy, I'll leave out. He is alive, and that is all I can say and everything he can be thankful for.
Just as I was leaving, Natalie screamed at me. "Who the fuck are you? What did we ever do to you?" I flipped her off.
Before I left her apartment, I made sure she didn't have my spare key.
