What happened was probably the wildest thing ever. Have I ever kissed anyone before? Yes, duh. But nothing compared to this. This was so spontaneous and sudden but it felt right. It felt right to be in his arms. It felt right to be stuck to his amazingly warm and snugly chest. Most of all it felt right to be kissed like this, even though we had just escaped death.

Now, clinging to him with my back against the wall, with his lips on mine, the entire world just started to fade away. I deepened the kiss, my tongue entering his mouth, my hands moving to his neck. He pressed harder against me, our tongues dancing together.

Just escaped death. Wait... Something wasn't sitting right. How did Stephen know we were here?

My eyes snapped open as I disentangled my hands from James' neck and pushed against his chest. He stepped back with a frown and obvious confusion apparent on his face. The entire thing was so comical, I would've laughed about it. But something else was on my mind.

"What is it?" James asked, worried. And if I was right, there was a hint of fear too.

"How did Stephen know we were here?" I asked. James shrugged. "He said her friend must have lied to us.... But the only friend who knew I was coming here...."

"Was Jessica." James finished.

The car flew down the empty streets. James' hand was clenched so tight over the steering wheel, his knuckles turned white. His arm flexed every time he turned the wheel, turning my stomach into jelly. I tore my eyes away from him and pulled my phone out. Jessica had sent a dozen messages and phone calls. But I had kept my phone on silent.

Stephen found me!

I couldn't lie to him.

He threatened me with my mom and dad. Get out of there ASAP!

These were the most important messages. The rest were filled with cusses asking me to read the messages. I was about to text her back, when James' hands fell on mine. I didn't like how I immediately stopped functioning.

"Don't text her now. She might be in trouble and if he happens to see your message, it'll only land us in more trouble." He said softly. Us. That made butterflies disco dance in my stomach. How could everything change so much with just one kiss?

We pulled into the street and James parked near the apartment. I noticed a red mustang parked right in front of the apartment.

"I know that car." I said, nodding towards it.

"Stephen's?" James asked.

I shook my head. "His friend's."

"Stay in the car, I'll be right back." James moved to get out of the car, but I held him back. He raised an eyebrow in question.

"I'm coming with you." I said stubbornly. His jaws bunched up again with obvious reluctance clear in his eyes. But, we didn't have time for this. He nodded and motioned for me to come.

We made our way towards Jess' flat. I could faintly hear shouting through the door.

Where the fuck is she? I don't have time to argue with you! You don't know Stephen; he will do anything to get what he wants and he has wanted her a long time.

How in the seven hells should I know? Maybe she ran off with some guy. She told me she was going to that café and I told you the same thing. So, fuck off!

Fine you leave me no choice then!

James rapped on the door with his knuckle. I stared at him wide eyed. He brought his finger to his lips.

Now, who the hell is that?

With that a pair of boots thudded towards the door from the other side. The door swung open to reveal an immensely huge, ugly and insanely built guy.

"Who the fuc—" He started, then he saw me and his eyes went wide.

James swung his left arm in a huge arc and connected his fist to the guy's jaw. The guy staggered back, surprised. James not wasting even a moment, stepped close to him. His right hand struck out, his strong arm connecting with the guy's nose, knocking him out cold.

James walked into the flat, throwing a disgusted look at the limp being on the floor. I followed suit after collecting my jaw off the floor. I should get used to doing that.

Jessica rushed towards me and threw her arms around me.

"I'm SOOO sorry!" She wailed. "They threatened to harm my family and I just didn't know what to do! I tried texting and calling you but you didn't pick up." She sobbed harder, tears streaming down her cheeks.

I patted her back and whispered, "It's fine, I'm here now. I'm alright."

I lay Jess in her bed and tucked her in. She was so tired. And that was understandable after what she'd been through in the day. Switching the lights off, I softly closed the door behind me. In the living room, James stood looking all moody and sullen. Almost as if someone had dragged him away from something which he was enjoying. Oh... Well.

On seeing me, his face smoothened.

"How is she?" He asked.

"Shocked." I replied. He nodded his head and heaved a deep sigh.

A few moments of silence later, he looked at me.

"Well, what do we do with this one?" He asked nudging the unconscious guy with his leg.

I shrugged. "What do you want to do?" I asked.

He gave me the broadest smile ever. "Oh, I have an idea. But before that I have some things to discuss with you."
