James grabbed my hand leading me through the house and into the kitchen. A captivating aroma wafted through the kitchen where his mom stood cooking. She laughed as we ran by her legs, ruffling our hair before we shot out through the backdoor of the house and into the beautiful garden behind their house. He was a bit taller than me, his messy black hair falling over his eyes such that he had to stop and swipe it off his face every now and then.
We ducked under a secret door behind a tree and snuck into the secret garden. The flowers here were much more magnificent than the ones near the house. It felt like a completely different place. We ran through the garden, trying to tag each other. We didn't know the rules of the game but had seen other children play it, so we ended up running into each other, both of us trying to tag the other.
A touch made me snap out of the memory. I turned around to see James standing next to me, looking down at me with a weird expression. We'd snuck back around to James' house and stood in the same kitchen from where his mom had stood cooking.
The ginger haired girl lay on the floor, squealing with her eyes wide. The noise was muffled by the gag that was tied around her mouth. Her legs and hands were also bound.
Stephen gave a dismayed glance at her before muttering, "Told you we should have killed her."
Apparently, they had encountered her on the freeway too. The barreling bull that was Stephen had knocked her out cold when she crashed into the hood of the car.
"She works with my father." Stephen sighed. "We can leave her here; she must've already informed him of our location."
We moved to the living room and away from the squealing creature. The room was in complete disarray from the last time we were here. The men must've rampaged through here, searching for me. The sofas and chairs were overturned, muddy footprints covered a large part of the carpet that was rolled out over the floor.
Fury engulfed me. Couldn't the bastard just leave me alone? Being reckless hadn't helped me one bit. What's the use in crying over spilt milk? I should focus on cleaning it up.
My mind had wandered from the present and came back only when I realized they were expecting an answer from me.
Stephen huffed. "I still don't get why she should come with us."
"I don't either." Leah added casting a glare in my direction. She pointed toward Olivia. "Even she's fine. She told she wouldn't harm us as long as she was fine, now that she is, how can we trust her?"
I opened my mouth to reply, but James surprised me by answering instead. "We need her." He told.
"I'm far too injured to be able to do anything. Stephen alone can't defend all of us." He glanced at Stephen, but I could tell that wasn't the only thing on his mind. Stephen had also almost killed him, that wasn't exactly the best way to get someone to trust you.
"I'll join you." I agreed.
"This is farewell then." Olivia sighed, hugging me.
I embraced her and whispered in her ear, "Thank you for everything. I couldn't have asked for a better friend."
