On the last day of spring break....

Sammie and her friends are shopping across town from Berry High. They all stop to take a break on a bench nearby.

Sammie: Who knew shopping could be so exhausting?

Sydney: But we can't quit now! I haven't heard about everyone's spring break yet!

Caleb: It's only been a week, Sydney....

Sammie: Although, it does feels like we haven't hung out in like six weeks! Honestly, I don't know how we survived it....I don't know how it did either, unable to see my girlfriend....

Emma: I was looking forward to seeing to you too.

Emma leans over and kisses Sammie lightly.

Emma: Just so I could do that.

Sammie: You have read my mind.

Myra squeals.

Myra: Ahhhhhhh! You two are just so darn cute!

Caleb looks around the group and smiles.

Caleb: I've gotta say, this is so much better than the basketball trip over break. I still can't believe we lost to Hearst in the final four.

Sammie: I heard about that. I wish I could've been there to cheer you guys on.

Sydney: You Know Sammie, the same thing happened to us at our cheerleading competition! Hearst just beat us out for third place.

Aiden: At least concert band placed....even if it was third.

Myra: But it was Hearst who won the whole thing.

Sammie: Hearst beat all of us? This quarter, they're going down! There is no way they'll get the better of us again!

Luis: Statistically speaking....they have more money, so they attend club--

Myra: Not the time, Luis!

Emma: By the way, did you officially decide what activity you're doing this quarter, Sammie?

Sammie: I sure do, Emma. This quarter, I have decided to join the concert band. I figured I'd stick with the band for at least one more quarter.

Myra: It'd better be more, Sammie! We need you and your sax!

Aiden: Where else will we find someone with such raw musical talent?

Sammie: That's another quarter away. A lot can change between now and then.

Michael: Have fun with that, Sammie. I'll be enjoying the great outdoors on my motorcycle. No snow to worry about....just the open road!

Sammie: Any fun plans for this quarter, Maria?

Maria: You really have to ask? Prom is only two months away! I have to vet venues, make a shortlist djs, pick flower arrangements....There's so much to do!

Sammie: Between you and Payton, Maria, It's going to be amazing. I can picture it now....twinkling fairy lights, romantic slow dances....

Maria: Exactly Sammie! I'm glad someone sees my vision!

Sammie and her friends continue catching up over the next few minutes. Finally, Emma stands up and extends her hand to Sammie.

Emma: Feel like taking a walk, Sammie? There's a shop nearby I want to show you.

Myra: Uh-huh. A shop. I've heard that one before.

Luis: What else could she....Ohhhh.

Emma: Don't pay attention to them. What do you say?

Sammie: I'd love to. Let's go.

Hand in hand, Emma leads Sammie down the street, stopping just outside of an antique shop.

Sammie: Ye Olde Rags and Riches? Who are we shopping for?

Emma: No one today....I just really wanted some alone time with you.

Sammie: What are the odds? I wanted the exact same thing!

Sammie twine her finger around a strand of Emma's hair. She takes her hand, leaving a trail of kisses across Sammie's knuckles. Sammie lift Emma's chin and kiss her passionately. After a long, lingering moment, Sammie pull back and grin.

Sammie: Have I mentioned how much I like alone time?

Emma: I wouldn't mind hearing it once or twice more....

Sammie chuckles and lean in again....but before her lips meet, a strong smell fills Sammie's nose. She looks up and see large clouds of smoke billowing in the distance.

Emma: I wonder what's burning.

Sammie: Only one way to find out....

Sammie and Emma run off in the direction of the smoke....and find Hearst High on fire! Flames erupt from every window, engulfing the entire building. Even from where Sammie's standing, she can feel the heat radiating from the school.

Sammie: Holy shit!

Emma: This is crazy!

Emma squeezes Sammie's hand tighter, eyes never wavering from the burning building.

Emma: I can't believe this is happening!

Sammie: Emma, call the fire department!

Sammie glance over and see Emma already dialing 911.

Emma: Hello? There's a huge fire burning....at Hearst High.

The two ladies remain glued to the spot, watching the Flames growing higher and higher.

Emma: How did this happen?

Sammie: I don't know, I hope--

CRACK! Suddenly, one of the H's from the Hearst High sign crashes to the ground!

Emma: Sammie, watch out!

Emma throws her arms around Sammie, shielding her from the falling debris.

Sammie: Emma, are you okay?

Emma: I'm fine, Sammie. I just couldn't risk you getting hurt.

Just then, Sammie hears the approaching wail of a fire engine. As the truck pulls up in front of Hearst, firefighters leap out and begin to douse the flames. Sammie give a statement to the firefighters, then watch them work. After a few moments, Emma gently tugs on Sammie's hand.

Emma: We should let them do their job.

Sammie nods, and the two ladies retreat across the street. Sammie looks on as the firefighters put out the final flames.
