Late Friday afternoon....
Scott: Hey, Sammie-bear, I'm home!
Sammie: Dad, you're finally here! We need to get to the restaurant in time for open mic night.
Scott: Actually, Sammie, I don't think I'm feeling up to it. How about we stay in and watch TV instead?
Sammie feel her stomach drop.
Sammie: But Dad, You promised me we'd go!
Scott: I'm just pulling your leg, Sammie. I know you've been looking forward to this all week.
Sammie glares at her dad.
Sammie: Daaaaaad....you scared Bonnie!
Bonnie sits in her cage, happily munching on a roll of cardboard.
Scott: Doesn't look very scared to me.
Sammie: She's my pet. I know her feelings better than you do.
Scott: So, since we're going to a nice restaurant, how about you wear that new outfit we got you last week? That one with the cardigan?
Sammie: Good idea. I'll try it on.
Scott shuts the door and Sammie changes into her new outfit.
Sammie: Ta-da!
Scott: My goodness gracious, looking sharp Sammie! Let's go. To the car!
A few minutes later....
Sammie and her dad arrive at the restaurant, where Emma and her mother are already waiting.
Emma: Sammie! Mr. Clifford! You're here!
Sammie give her a quick kiss hello.
Scott: Hey there, Emma. And I've told you, call me Scott.
Julia: Hello, Scott. I didn't realize Sammie was bringing you along.
Sammie: Yeah! Of course he's here. Who else is going to pay for dinner?
Scott: Now wait a minute, was that why you were so insistent that I join you?
Sammie: Sorry, Dad. It was that, or beg for you to give me my allowance early.
Julia and Emma laugh.
Julia: Kids, right?
Scott: They're great, but terrible.
Just then, a greeter arrives with menus.
Greeter: Welcome to Pindarus. Table for four?
Julia turns to Sammie's dad.
Julia: Do you mind sharing a table?
Scott: Of course not. I've missed you....and I'm sure Sammie and Emma want to sit together.
Emma: We do!
Greeter: Right this way, then.
The greeter leads the four to a comfortable booth, and they are sitting down.
Emma: Sammie, you didn't tell me you were going to dress up. Is that outfit new?
Sammie: I sure do, Hawkins. Do you like it?
Emma: Yeah, I really, really, really....Okay, maybe not that many 'really's, really like it!
Next to Sammie, her dad and Julia get to talking.
Scott: So, Julia, what have you been up to? It's been, what--
Julia: Don't say it, Scott. You'll make me feel old. And things have been....up and down. But I'm keeping it together. Emma's been a huge help. What about you?
