Sunday afternoon....

Caleb is helping Sammie cram in some last-minute practice for her band audition on Monday. She finish the song, hitting the last note with practiced ease. Caleb cheers as she wipe her brow.

Caleb: Bravo! That was great!

Sammie: Ah well, there's still room for improvement.

Sammie stretch her arms as Caleb brings her a glass of water.

Sammie: Caleb, thanks for coming out today and helping me practice.

Caleb: I'm happy to help! I know how much you want that solo.

Sammie: Honestly, I'm glad I have competition. I've got to be at the top of my game if I want to beat out Cameron. I wouldn't be pushing myself so hard to improve if I didn't have a rival.

Caleb: That's the spirit! You're probably both benefiting from this.

Sammie're about to retry the song when Caleb's phone buzzes in his pocket. He checks it and turns to her, thrilled.

Caleb: Whoa! Sammie! Look! Look!

Caleb excitedly shows Sammie his phone.

Jade:

Hey Caleb, you free right now? I was gonna go to the baseball game at Terman U with my dad but he flaked and now I have an extra ticket. Wanna go with me?

Sammie: Wow! I can't believe she asked you out!

Caleb: Me neither! I'm not dreaming, am I?

Sammie: Sounds like someone has a date.

Caleb: Is it a date? She might not feel the same way as me....Oh, god. What if I go acting like it's a date when it's not, and come off as a creep? I like her so much that I don't know if I can play things cool. Maybe it's better if I don't go, after all....

Sammie: You're overthinking this! She obviously likes you, or else she wouldn't have invited you.

Caleb: I don't know....I wanna go so bad, but....

Caleb looks longingly at Jade's texts on his phone....

Sammie: Caleb, it's up to you. If you're nervous, don't force yourself.

Caleb: Okay, let's keep practicing then. I'm sure I'll get another chance sometime. Ready for one more go?

Sammie: I was born ready!

On Monday, during school....

Sammie're sitting at lunch with her friends, listening to Myra.

Myra: All the campus couples have been glowing. I literally feel prom energy in the air!

Michael: Guess that explains why I'm sneezing today.

Myra: You're no fun. This is supposed to be exciting.

Michael: Eh. Not my thing.

Sammie: Are you thinking of asking anyone, Michael?

Michael shrugs, focusing on his lunch.
