Monday morning, during homeroom....
As Sammie enter the classroom, she overhear Myra and Sydney whispering to each other.
Myra: I still can't believe Sammie and Emma saw the fire themselves!
Sydney: It was lucky we went shopping when we did! Who knows what would've happened if they didn't see the smoke?
Sammie makes her way further into the room. Myra and Sydney immediately fall silent.
Sammie: Morning, everyone.
Sammie look around for an empty seat. Caleb and Emma smile, pointing to one next to them.
Emma: Morning, Sammie.
Sammie kiss Emma on the cheek and take a seat next to her.
Ms. Maddox: No PDA in the classroom, Sammie.
Sammie: Whoops. Sorry about that.
Ms. Maddox: That's all right. Now, everyone, it's time for the morning announcements.
Sammie turn her attention to the front of the room. Maria flashes a smile to the camera and adjusts the papers in her hands.
Maria: Good morning, Berry High! Welcome back from spring break. This is your Tiger News. On this day in 1531, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon first spotted the land that would one day be known as Florida. Now, as you may be aware, Hearst High has been forced to close temporarily. Starting tomorrow, all Hearst students who live to the west of Interstate 98 will be attending Berry High until further notice.
Sammie whispered into Caleb's ear.
Sammie: Caleb, do we know anyone who lives west of I-98?
Caleb: Yeah. Zoe, Max, Kara and....Brian.
Sammie grins.
Sammie: Awesome! New students!
Caleb: You're awfully cheerful about this.
Emma: We're talking about Brian!
Sammie: It's our chance to mends ties with him! Plus, we can make friends with the others we haven't met yet!
The camera pans to Principal Rivera. She gives the camera a stern look.
Principal Rivera: Please put your best foot forward for your new classmates tomorrow. They've been through a lot after their school burnt down.
Maria: Thanks, Principal Rivera. Onto the spring activities....If you haven't signed up yet, now's your chance to do so! You'll find extra signups for all clubs and sports on the bulletin board across from the computer lab! And be ready to welcome the incoming Hearst students who sign up for Spring activities!
Caleb: I didn't think about that. Brian's going to be on the team again. Julian's going to hate being Max again, too....
Emma: At least you've dealt with Brian before. I'll be cheering with Zoe.
Sydney: Plus, Kara's cheer captain at Hearst....which means she'll be joining us. Poor Mia. She transferred from Hearst to get away from Kara.
Myra: This could be really good for Band, Sammie!
Sammie: How?
Myra: There's no Brian or Zoe or blah, blah, bad Hearst student. But they do have an awesome concert band. Aiden hasn't shut up about their clarinet player, Terrance, since their competition performance.
Sammie: Huh, maybe things are looking up for us, Myra.
Myra: People say he's kind of snobbish....but I've never met him myself.
