The sun was setting. The rain violently banged on top of the wet, hard pavement of the streets of Salisbury. it felt like you could hear the thumps from the rain a mile away. A thunder growl was heard somewhere in the distance. As the people were scattering, trying to find shelter under anything they could find, the chill, relaxed weekend feeling was appearing in the fellow English people. Finally, Friday night has arrived, even though the weather was a complete disaster, the people were still looking forward to the weekends.

"Ding dingggg."
The big, wooden door opened, into the library stepped in a 16 year old boy. He was wearing a long trench coat, a hat, some trousers and solid shoes and very important to to point out that he was soaking wet. The water dripped down from his very wet, dark brown hair and his brown eyes were looking directly in front of him. To be clear, he was looking at a fairly big line of 6 people in it.

He took of his coat and hung it on the coat hanger beside him. The man last in line, his neighbour Mike, turned around and smiled at him.
"Your soaking wet Johnny, here from school?"
"Eh, yes sir!"
Said Johnny as he stepped into the line while cringing at the way Mike said his name. To be honest, Johnny hated his name. Most often he was called Johnny which sounded too uncool and childish for his age and on rare ocasiones when he was called John, it sounded to old and profesional. His name was never right for todays world. It was too old. Too unmodernised.

"It's 6pm, so late, your parents might be worried."
" yeah, because of todays weather I had to take it slow on the bike."
Mike chuckled, "oh you kids nowadays, sometimes too responsible and sometimes idiotic."
"Yeah, it's true I guess."
Mike turned back to face the front of the line. Johnny was tired of the wait so he went out of line to walk around the library.

Salisbury was a small and boring city in England. Nothing ever new or exciting happened here. It was always the super safe, happy, tight-nit city where everyone knew everyone's business. Johnny always dreamed of someday getting away to London or maybe all the way to America to New-York where something always happened every day. Salisbury was boring and only new, or maybe even exciting thing that has happened for teens was the new comic book that was sold at the local library. The comic book was about superhero's, it was so eventful and was trending amongst the teens in the early 2000. Johnny enjoyed it because it was so eventful unlike his life here in this city.

Suddenly, Johnny tripped over something and was very close to falling into a bookshelf. He held himself up, balancing on whatever body part he had on the ground while flapping his arms around. When Johnny finally regained his balance, he looked down at the culprit of why he tripped. It was an unfamiliar looking book which was unusual for the local library because first of all, Mrs. Pattil (the librarian) kept things so organised and clean that it felt like nothing, even a speck of dust couldn't be left on the floor so untidily. Second of all, the only new thing in this library, in fact, in Salisbury, were the comic books and Johnny had weirdly never seen this book around even though he knew this library like his five fingers.

Johnny picked up the book and read the title in a quiet voice.
"House of horrors 1976". Johnnies voice shivered, he felt intrigued. Never in his life he would've thought he would've been this interested in a book.

Johnny made his was to the line which was now empty. Only Mrs Pattil was looking and smiling at him.
"I've seen you've got a book this time, do you still need the comic?"
"No, no I don't think I will manage reading 2 books on a row." Said Johnny and handed the new book to her.
"Hmmmm, haven't seen this book here before."
She typed something on her computer like she usually did and then gave Johnny the book.
"Thank you, have a good weekend!"
Johnny waved at Mrs Pattil, took his trench coat and left through the wooden door. He hopped on to his bike and quickly shoved the book inside his coat pocket. He cycled away very carefully.

As he got home the rain stopped. He parked his bike in the garage of his house and finally checked his cellphone. The time was 19:16 and he had gotten 7 missed calls from his mom. He sighed and mentally prepared himself for the yelling that was about to come.

"John Wilson, where have you been!"
As soon as Johnny stepped into his house, his worried mom stood up from the kitchen table and rushed over to him. His dad was as usual, unbothered and watching football on the couch.

"Yes, Miranda Wilson?"

"HOW DARE YOU! You come home late, not answer my calls and then you come and start being rude to our own mother!"

" yes Johnny, don't be rude to your mother!"
Said Dad but still not taking eyes of the screen. Must be a very intense match thought Johnny.

"Frank, stay out of this, just keep quiet! Where have you been young man?"

"Mom, it's Friday, I was at the library and because of the rain I went slower so obviously got home later. I wasn't doing anything bad, you shouldn't worry like that."

"But I am worried! You haven't told me that you will be tardy today and haven't answered any of my calls. We seriously need to be more stricter with you, right Frank?" Mom turned to dad, waiting for him to agree but dad didn't, it was as if he didn't hear her, "Frank? Hello? OH FOR GODS SAKE, turn this Tv off!" She yelled and grabbed the remote and switched the TV off.

"But you told me to stay out of this and not talk!"

" Frank, turn on your mind and help me discipline our son!"

" I think 19:20 or whenever Johnny came home wasn't THAT late."

"Exactly, mom, you treat me like a 10 year old boy. I'm 16. I can defend myself. With you I have no freedom!"

"Johnny, you have enough freedom on the weekends."

"No mom! I don't! I have to be home before 9 pm on the weekends, it's unfair. As I said I'm not 10 anymore. In 2 years I'm going to be 18!"

"Okay okay, calm down you two. Dad is going to come to the rescue. Miranda, you are too strict on him, he is right, he needs more freedom. He is 16 now and maybe he wants to "hang out" with girls-"

"Daaaaad..."

"Okay okay," dad chuckled, " maybe he wants to hang with his friends and go to that lame library. You do need to give him some freedom BUT Johnny you do need to answer your mothers calls." Dad winked at Johnny and mom walked away, defeated. Johnny gave a thank you look to dad, took out his book out of his coat pocket and ran up the stairs into his room. Finally. The week was over with.

Johnny displayed his body comfortably on his bed and got out the book. He flipped through the book, he'd never ever wanted to read something unlike this book.

The first page said:
"If you are brave enough to read this book based on a true story then you are definitely not
Brave enough to visit the 'house of
Horrors' in person"
And below the sentence was an address of the house. Johnnies heart skipped a beat as he leaped towards his computer, he googled the address and turns out the "house of horrors" was only 40 minutes from Johnnies house. Johnny went back to his bed. He had planned a great weekend already.
