Chapter Forty Two: The Antivirus

It had finally happened. After over a month of travelling and searching across America, the Antivirus had been found. In the basement of Oakland General Hospital was the Antivirus to S.P.V and Bridge smiled with relief as He said "At long last. The Antivirus!" Bridge, Phinehas and Anna then entered the large vault that contained the Antivirus and looked in awe at the capsule that contained the green liquid that would save Humanity from extinction. The survivors of the Fall outside the vault looked at the Antivirus with hope beaming through Them. Here, for the first time, was a sign that the Pandemic was over for good and that Humanity would recover. 

Bridge carefully looked at the cylinder shaped capsule and said "Looks like at least two or three people will have to carry it and We'll need a truck to transport it". Sebastian stepped into the vault and asked "Why? We've found the Antivirus so why not break that thing open and save the World?" Supreme Scientist Milton walked next to Sebastian and explained to Him "You see Sebastian, We don't actually know if the Antivirus can eradicate the St Peters Virus cells still inside of those formerly infected. So I propose that We take it back to Silicon Valley for analysis". As two Phoenix Militiamen and a Directorate Peacekeeper started lifting the Antivirus out of the vault, Bridge said "Good idea. We'll test a sample on Anna and Phinehas. After all, They were both infected".

Silicon Valley truly was the global centre for innovation the Scientist Directorate had claimed it to be. The various tech firms active there before the Fall had rallied there after the Antidote was released by Ivan Makarova and formed the Scientist Directorate with the goal of saving Humanity through technological progress and innovation. Based out of Google's former headquarters there, the Directorate coordinated recovery efforts throughout Silicon Valley and the newly established schools were encouraging children to be creative with Their lives. While the schools taught everything that usually was taught prior to the Fall, They also had special classes where the students had to develop something to solve a certain problem. For example, They would be told that a village was low on water reserves and would have to create something to fix that problem. Some students would create a rainwater collector, others would create a water purifier and a few would even create a water recycling system(Yes They used Their own urine in the experiment). In a way, it was like going to both High School and College at the same time. Phinehas found it all amazing and suggested enacting the same system at the school that the First Phoenix Alliance had established in Ivan Makarova Memorial Plaza. Bridge was quick to answer that He would consider it, but first They had to focus on the Antivirus.

The headquarters of the Scientist Directorate was a sight to behold indeed. Where it was once the California HQ of Google, it was now a centre of scientific development and innovation. Each section of the "Hall of Innovation" as it was called, had been assigned to a specific task. Such as management of day to day operations in the Directorate and the development of new technologies. The latter being the primary focus of the Scientist Directorate. People who had positions in scientific sectors worked many days of each week to invent new technologies that would help improve the lives of all citizens. As the leaders of the F.P.A walked through the hallways of the Hall of Innovation They saw engineers developing new equipment for the Peacekeepers and doctors researching all manner of diseases and trying to develop the best possible treatments for those afflicted with disease. As They passed a room where a battle mech was being designed, They stopped in Their tracks and looked in shock and awe. Bridge almost gasped as He looked through the bullet proof glass and asked "What the heck is this!?" The scientist inside of the room, who had the name "Epstein" on His lanyard, pressed a button below the window that would allow Him to speak through the intercom and explained "Even though it is undesirable, it is however very possible that war may break out. So the Scientist Directorate is developing this mech suit to counter enemy tank units". The mech suit was about the size of a person and was covered in highly durable armour. It had a machine gun attached to each arm and Joe noticed that there weren't any bullet cartridges. Joe looked at the Scientist and asked "Where are the bullets?" Epstein answered much to the Phoenixes' shock "There are none. The guns use energy bolts and can last up to a year without need for reload".
