Chapter Forty: The Battle Of Oakland General Hospital

Oakland was a proud city before the Fall, but when the St Peters Virus came the whole city was plunged into riots looting and many other atrocious crimes. Only seventy five thousand people were left in Oakland where there were once over four hundred thousand and all of Them were under the leadership of the American Tribe. Throughout the City, the American Tribe had been adapting the morals and values of various religions into common law and had been promoting the three religions of Christianity, Islam and Native-American Spiritualism. As the vehicles containing the leaders of the American Tribe, Scientist Directorate and First Phoenix Alliance drove through the City, Bridge and Anna saw Churches, Mosques and Prayer Huts all over Oakland. In the area of the City where Christianity was popular, priests in long black robes could be seen and wooden crosses were hung up on the top of buildings. In the area where Islam was the predominant religion, women wore bright hijabs and men had long beards. In the area where Spiritualism was the majority faith, people wore buckskins and beaded moccasins as a sign of Their faith. It was also made clear that the American Tribe had also sought to incorporate religious beliefs into the children, as the schools taught each child whatever religion They wanted to learn about. The American Tribe had a system similar to that of a constitutional monarchy, while the people did vote for who made up the "Council of Chiefs", the title of High Chief was passed down from parent to child. Bridge couldn't help but compare the system to the one that was in place back in the United Kingdom, after all, He and His father Drake were from there. While culturally speaking, Oakland had become a completely different city, economically speaking, it had recovered quite well from the Fall and things were getting better. A new age of religious morals and unity for Oakland had begun.

Oakland General Hospital, however, was not like the rest of the City. It was abandoned and decrepit with broken windows and smashed up cars around it. A pile of body bags filled with the corpses of those who had perished of the St Peters Virus was outside of the hospital entrance and a rotting stench came from them and poisoned the smell of the air. It was a truly horrifying site indeed. But the most horrifying site was the thirteen mutilated corpses hanging from the windows via ropes and the faces were beyond recognition. All of these people had gone into the hospital and returned days later in this heavily mutilated and horrifying form. The soldiers in the Tribal Army War Band that had been stationed around hospital to stop any further entrances often longingly looked at the hanging corpses, wondering if They were a person They used to know.

In the building on the other side of the street from the hospital were the leaders of the Scientist Directorate, American Tribe and the First Phoenix Alliance, who had all assembled at Oakland General to confirm weather or not the Antivirus that would destroy S.P.V was inside of Oakland General. The fact that whoever went in was mutilated in this horrible way alone proved that there was a possibility that the Unity Order had soldiers inside guarding something and that something had to be the Antivirus. Within the old apartment block, was Bridge Winters and Anna Makarova of the F.P.A. As well as Raymond Milton of the Scientist Directorate and His son Jonah and finally Navajo Jackson and His personal Vanguard. Bridge looked at the corpses hanging from the windows in Oakland General through His binoculars and said with disgust in His voice "Looks like those people were tortured to death". Navajo agreed with the horror in His eyes and asked Supreme Scientist Milton "How could anyone do this?" Milton struggled not to vomit at the site of the corpses as He said "I don't know. But what I do know is that You would have to be a very sick and very twisted individual to do something like....like.....THIS!" 

Bridge knew that now was the time to act and said "Alright then, lets go over the plan Everyone". Everyone in the room assembled at the map the War Band had of the hospital and Bridge said "Alright then, there are three wings in the hospital: the west wing; south wing and left wing. The Phoenix Militia will clear the South Wing of whoever it is that has occupied the Hospital, the Scientist Directorate Peacekeepers Unit shall search the East Wing and the Tribal Army will go through the West Wing. We'll disarm all hostiles and then search the whole place for the Antivirus. Hopefully the Antivirus is inside and this won't be a huge waste of time". Anna then got to the window and relayed the instructions to all three armies and said to Them "Remember, do NOT kill any hostiles You encounter, only disarm and then have the Peacekeepers disable Their microchips, if They have Them of course". The soldiers all started agreeing and Their commanders led Them inside the hospital to clear out each wing of hostiles and search for the one thing that would save Humanity in these dark times: the Antivirus.

The three military units stormed into the Hospital and as They went in, They encountered dozens of corpses of people who had perished from either the St Peters Virus, or the riots that happened nation wide following the collapse of America. There was dried blood on the walls and rotting bodies on hospital beds. It was truly a gruesome and horrific site indeed. The Phoenix Militia Battalion that was searching the South Wing carefully walked through the hallways, equipped with bullet proof vests and AK-47 Rifles and a desire to save Humanity from the Unity Order's evil plans of global genocide and world domination. As a group of ten soldiers entered a long hallway with five rooms, They saw a strange device on the ceiling above Them that had a red light that was beeping really fast and loudly. They all looked up at it with confused faces, but then looked at the doors as strange noises came from the rooms they led to. Machine noises, to be more specific. The soldiers then heard clanking noises and one of the soldiers shouted with a horrific realisation "It's a motion sensor" as the doors were punched open by an android that came out of each.

The androids were a terrible thing to see indeed, as They were made from a white synthetic alloy and had a cold robotic face of plastic and glowing red optics. They had a machine gun for a right arm and a machete for a left arm and were intent on using these to kill the intruders that had invaded the Hospital. All over Oakland General, similar androids exited hospital bedrooms from Their recharging stations and began to attack the soldiers, peacekeepers and warriors. A great twenty minute long battle ensued, in which the soldiers began shooting the Androids in order to destroy Them. The bullets could easily kill a person in a single shot, but for the Androids it took two whole cartridges worth of bullets to damage Them enough. The first group of soldiers to encounter Them ran back into the visiting centre where ten other soldiers were stationed, five being peacekeepers and the other five being warriors and They took cover behind tables that had been flipped on the side and began shooting the Androids. The lead Phoenix soldier yelled "Focus fire on the one in front then move on from there!" The soldiers did as They were ordered and the Android fell down after being rained with bullets from three different soldiers for about five seconds. The rest of the Androids then started firing and huge holes were blasted into the tables. Knowing that He had to act fast, one of the Peacekeepers pulled out one of His grenades, pulled out the clip and then threw it at the Androids. The grenade landed on the floor and as one of the Androids said in a cold and robotic voice "Warning! Explosive Ordinance detected! Exfiltrate to alternative location immediate-" the grenade exploded! Destroying the remaining four Androids and causing considerable levels of damage to the room They were fighting in. The soldiers had all been protected and were quick to decide that They had to help defeat the rest of the Androids throughout the Hospital. 

During the battle, the Militiamen, Peacekeepers and Warriors all saw what the Androids did to anyone who came across the Hospital. Inside many rooms were Androids of different designs that would chop up the bodies of those unfortunate enough to enter the Androids lair that was a butcher's shop of death and mutilate Them far beyond the point of recognition in order to scare people away from Oakland General. It was a horrific site indeed and some struggled to stop Themselves from vomiting in horror. Luckily, the Androids were all destroyed and the battle ended in victory. Now the First Phoenix Alliance, Scientist Directorate and the American Tribe had to focus on finding the Antivirus and saving Humanity from extinction.
