Chapter Forty Nine: The Executive Committee

It had finally come, the end of the Battle of New Dawn. Standing around the entrance to the Command Centre were over a dozen soldiers of the First Phoenix Alliance, Scientist Directorate and American Tribe and they were aiming their rifles at the Executive Committee of the Unity Order, the evil tyrants who had caused the deaths of over seven billion people with the St Peters Virus, a terrible ailment that was created from the DNA of an Alien who had come to Earth decades earlier to unleash a Bioweapon that made the entire population of the planet immune to a horrific parasite that was intent on enslaving every single alien race they could find. The St Peters Virus, now more commonly referred to as the "Unity Virus" by many of the citizens of the San Francisco Bay Area, had killed approximately seven billion people across the World. Meaning that the Unity Order were responsible for the largest loss of life in Human history. The Executive Committee were all important politicians and businessmen who had huge amounts of influence throughout the World. Among these genocidal madmen were Barry Jameson, the Herald of Wealth, Victor Smirnov, the Herald of War and Damon Adams, the Supreme Warden of the Unity Order.

As Anna entered the Command Centre, she saw Herald Smirnov and said while angrily aiming her pistol at him "I should've known that you were a part of this you imperialist pig!" When Bridge saw Barry Jameson among the Heralds, he angrily and sarcastically asked "Why am I not surprised that you are in on this you incompetent fool!?" Bridge then aimed his gun at Supreme Warden Adams, ready to tell him that he was under arrest for his crimes, but noticed that Adams was standing up and his hand was hovering over a red round button that had a nuclear symbol on it. Adams angrily and defiantly shouted "Come one step closer and I end the World!" Jameson looked shocked and horrified as he saw what Adams had done as he asked "What on Earth are you doing Supreme Warden". Adams literally spat at Britain's former fool of a Prime Minister who was responsible for the economic disaster of Brexit and said "What do you think I'm doing you blockhead!? I'm doing what we should've done in the first place and that's make sure that no one but us survives". Adams looked at Bridge and yelled "YOU RUINED EVERYTHING!!!!! Thanks to YOU our plans have FAILED!!! I would've gone down in history as the man who saved the Human race from extinction if it weren't for you meddling kids!" Bridge's face turned from angry to repulsed and appalled as he said "You think you would be remembered for saving Humanity? No. You would be remembered for a bloodbath, NOTHING MORE!!!!!"

Bridge noticed that I.A.N had appeared on all of the monitors that were on the walls around the Command Centre and asked "I.A.N, what is Adams doing?" I.A.N immediately and worryingly answered "It would appear that Supreme Warden Damon Adams has accessed the entire global arsenal of nuclear weapons. He is planning to fire the nukes at all possible targets". Bridge almost gasped as he asked "Can you deactivate it?" I.A.N disappointedly said "I am afraid not. Adams has blocked my access". Bridge looked horrified and was filled with shock and appalment as he looked at Adams who had an insane smile on his face as he said "Looks like I'll have the last laugh here". Phinehas almost dropped his gun from loosing his grip as he said "Adams! If you do this then Earth will become uninhabitable and hundreds of millions will die!" Adams laughed maniacally as he said "I know and I'm glad because if I can never rule the World, then nobody can. I own the Earth and therefore I can do whatever I want with it. So get ready to see the World you love so much be destroyed by the push of a button! Time for us to die together!" Adams then leaned back and raised his hand in the air, ready to slam the button and destroy the planet, but then Bridge bravely said "No. You die alone!" and shot Adams right between the eyes!

As Adams lifeless body fell backwards onto the ground, the Heralds stood up and stared in shock and horror. Bridge Winters, a British immigrant to the United States who had become the leader of the First Phoenix Alliance and de-facto leader of the Allied Forces. Bridge had always wanted to be remembered for something, but he never thought that he would be remembered for killing the sadistic leader of a genocidal cabal of maniacal monsters that had manipulated society for decades and caused who knows how many famines, revolutions and civil wars. But there was more to it than that, Supreme Warden Damon Adams had also served as the forty fifth and worst President of the United States of America! Throughout American history, a total of four Presidents had been assassinated while in office. The first one being Abraham Lincoln, referred to as "The Liberator of the Slaves" by the Patriotic American Army, who was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while watching his favourite play in the Ford Theatre. The second was James Garfield, who was murdered at a Railroad Station by Charles J. Guiteau. The third was William McKinley, who died of an infection that was the result of a gunshot injury he received when an Anarchist by the name of Leon shot him at the Pan-American Exposition. The fourth President to be assassinated was John F Kennedy, who was murdered by Lee Harvey Oswald who used a sniper rifle that, literally, blew his brains out. Now a fifth President had been assassinated and he had in some way deserved it, because he was responsible for the deaths of seven billion people and he had attempted to destroy the Earth using the World's nuclear arsenal, so therefore, no punishment could be given for this 'crime', as it was in defence of the entire Human species, or at least what remained of it and it gave Humanity a chance to rebuild. 

The Heralds stared in shock and horror upon seeing the entire table get redecorated with the blood of Supreme Warden Damon Adams. As Damon's blood formed a large puddle around his head, I.A.N enacted a scan of his body and said "Life signs: Zero. Damon Adams is deceased. Shall I have a morgue-bot dispose of the body? And if so, how?" Bridge lowered his pistol and said sternly "Put it in storage. We'll figure out what to do with it later". Bridge then looked at the Heralds and sternly said to the Allied Soldiers "Arrest them all and pin them against that wall". The Phoenix Militiamen, Scientist Directorate Peacekeepers and American Tribal Warriors then began handcuffing all fourteen Heralds and dragging them away. One Peacekeeper then pressed the "Cancel Doomsday Protocol" button on Adams' computer screen on the table and the Doomsday Button receded below, securing Humanity from Total Atomic Annihilation. Once the Heralds were put up against the wall, Bridge began walking across them and saying "When you were all elected to your positions the people gave you their trust. You betrayed that trust and helped cause the deaths of seven billion people. So by the power invested in me, I declare that you are all hereby stripped of your positions and are to be placed on trial in a joint court between the First Phoenix Alliance, Scientist Directorate and American Tribe in San Francisco as soon as possible". Bridge then stopped and looked at the fearful face of  Barry Jameson and said "I hope you all like prison, because your going to be there until the for a few months until your executions".

As the Allied Soldiers began to escort the Heralds away, Anna looked at one of the monitors that I.A.N was on and asked "Comrade I.A.N, can you please give us a full report on the battle?" I.A.N obliged and said "Of course". I.A.N then accessed the security cameras and counted all of the bodies of the Legion soldiers and Allied Forces and said "Out of the fifty thousand Legion soldiers, only fourteen thousand, one hundred and fifty eight are still alive. It will take approximately one month to dispose of all the bodies. As for the Allied soldiers, eight hundred and four were lost and over one thousand are injured. I recommend having them treated in New Dawn's infirmaries and then transported back to San Francisco". Bridge sighed and said "Okay then. Start directing all injured soldiers to the medical bays and have the remaining medical personnel treat them for transport back to San Francisco". Anna then walked up next to Bridge and said "We should also deliver the bodies of those lost to their next of kin and treat them with the upmost respect". As some Allied Soldiers throughout New Dawn began covering the bodies of the dead with sheets and helping wounded soldiers to medical bays, Sebastian asked Bridge "What do we do with Adams' body?" Everyone in the room froze and looked straight at the freshly killed corpse of Supreme Warden Damon Adams that continued to leak blood around the head. It hadn't yet occurred to Bridge for as to what they would do with Adams' body, so he wasn't quite sure. That was when Leon Zaitsev entered the room, having heard what Sebastian asked and said "The body of the tyrant Adams shall be burned into nothing but ashes. Believe me, that fascist doesn't deserve a funeral after all of the horrors he's committed".

All of the rebelling Worthy and even some of the Allied Soldiers in the room agreed with Leon as he began pouring oil from a canister onto Adams' blood soaked body. Leon's supporters started cheering and I.A.N said "Leon. Supreme Warden Adams was a known smoker. Would you prefer to use his lighter?" Leon calmly said "Yes" as I.A.N remotely opened the compartment where Adams had sat before being killed by Bridge. Leon then grabbed the cigarette pack from it and pulled out one of the cigars. Leon then used the lighter to light the cigar and smoked with it. Finally, Leon dropped the cigar onto Adams' body and it went up in flames! As Adams' body was immediately scorched beyond recognition, the Allied Soldiers and Worthy in the Command Centre started cheering and celebrating that the Battle of New Dawn was over and the Unity Order was defeated. Bridge, Anna, Phinehas and Sebastian all breathed sighs of relief that their struggle was over. At long last the survival of Humanity had been secured and any chance of Humanity being wiped out was gone. But there was still one more threat and that was the Parasite. 

Anna looked at Bridge with worried eyes and asked "What do we do about the Parasite?" Bridge looked in Anna's eyes and said "We rebuild the World. Then we defend it from the Parasite". With that, Bridge gave Anna a full peck on the lips and said "For now though, lets go home".
